Distractions seen/heard from the spot

Other dogsSometimes

Other dogs

Sometimes

i keep my dogs in the house while people visit but some neighbors have dogs and you can sometimes hear barking at a distance. You should not be able to see other dogs from this sniff spot, I ask my closest neighbor to bring her dog in when I have guests.

Other domestic animals

Sometimes

i have two horses and two goats - they may be in the adjoining pasture or across the road. you may also see my chickens or cats at a great distance. There is at least one empty pasture between the sniff spot and my animals, so your dog would have to jump two fences to have access to them. If your dog jumps 4 foot fences, this is not the spot for you.

Sometimes

i have older, quiet neighbors on the right side of the driveway. sometimes they’ll drive by and you might see them or a visitor get out of the car, but they never go in or near the field. I live in the country. I have some neighbors down the road who sometimes target shoot on the weekends. It doesn't usually go on for long and they're not super close, but if the noise ever scares your dog I'll give you a refund.

You are welcome to drive through the double red gates to park if you like, especially if you have a larger vehicle that might block my neighbor’s access to their driveway at the top. If the top part of the road is blocked or slippery, you can park in my lower driveway (just please leave me room to get in and out!) If you park outside of my gate, please leave room for the neighbors at the top of the hill to get out.

Description

Welcome to Pibble Hill! The top pasture of this small farm is available for dogs to sniff and exercise. Sometimes there will be farm animal smells, horses and goats, and turkeys, rabbits and deer may also visit. The neighbors have a dog in their fenced yard but they're usually good about bringing him in if someone is in the sniff spot. There is a nice hill to tire everyone out, and a pretty view of my little farm. If you sit at the top and throw balls down the hill your dogs will get very tired! There is a picnic table, a swing, a table and chairs, a fire pit chairs, a splashing trough, a dog toy box, and a hose. You can pull right in through the double red gates and close them behind you, to leave my neighbors room to drive past. This will also ensure your dogs don't escape from the sniff spot when you open the car doors. There is a large horse water trough, feel free to dump it and refill it if you need to (and if you're strong enough!) Please have fun with the dog toys - if your dog tears one up just toss out the stuffing or pieces. That's just what dogs do!

Cleanliness

99% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

HOST NOTE

There may be wildlife poop and I occasionally let my horses and goats graze there (not in winter). There are usually some sticks lying around that have blown down from the trees. There's also a fire pit but we only use it at night so it won't be hot.

Additional rules

Please pick up poop (bags and can provided). You're welcome to use the dog toys, whether they're in the toy box or scattered around the hill. Please stick to your designated arrival and departure times so I can have my animals and dog training clients out of the way. You are welcome to drive into the spot and park there before you close the gate. (It’s safer and you don’t have to worry about blocking the neighbor’s driveway) There is a small livestock tank for splashing, and a hose to refill it if you need to. There is also an electrical outlet on the pole if you need to charge your phone. There is also a fire pit and logs, you may need to bring some kindling if you'd like a fire.

Wooded trails ~ 10 minutes from downtown AVL

Unfenced
5 acres

Whistlepig Trails offers 5 acres of wooded, hand-maintained trails designed for dogs and their humans to explore. The paths wind through a natural hillside, with gentle slopes, packed earth, and plenty of interesting scents along the way. Maintained with care, these trails provide a safe and engaging space for dogs to roam, sniff, and stretch their legs. Located within a small, artsy campground, the space has a rustic, creative feel, with upcycled structures and a relaxed atmosphere. Sniff Spot visitors are welcome to use the restroom facilities during their visit. For leash-less exploring, that's dog-dependent. There are cats near the big open field, and if your pup likes to chase cats, then we'd ask that you kept your dog on a leash for the safety of our not-terribly-athletic cat. :) On the trails should be fine, but please make sure they're leashed in the parking area. Please note that it is possible that the neighbors dogs could make an appearance. Unfortunately, we have no control over this. :( There's a good chance you'll see other people around the property while you're here. We run a campground for visitors to Asheville and also have folks who live on the property.

Pondside Paws Park

Fully Fenced
0.5 acres

Welcome to Pondside Paws Park, located in a quiet valley 15 minutes outside of downtown Asheville NC. Here you will find a peaceful, fully fenced in half acre lot with a pond for your pups to swim, romp, sniff, play and have a great time. For those more adventurous dogs, there's even a dock for jumping into the pond! There are opportunities for enjoying the pond regardless of your dog's age or exercise ability, as there is a shallow area with tall grass for wading and splashing, and a deeper area for swimming. The slope of the land is gentle for those older dogs as well- this spot is suitable for dogs of all ages and abilities. For the humans, we have several seating options including a picnic table and 4 chairs under a shade sail. Bug spray, sunscreen, fresh drinking water for the dogs and a tote full of toys is also provided in the weatherproof storage shed next to the seating area. Waste bags are available if needed, although we appreciate people bringing their own, and there is a waste container located at the entrance, next to the kiddie pool that is used to rinse off muddy paws. It's recommended that you bring a towel to dry them off before getting back into your car. We hope you enjoy the spot and leave it as you found it for others to enjoy as well.

Hidden River Private Dog Park in Swannanoa, NC

Fully Fenced
0.17 acres

We are back in action after the flood and the Swannanoa Valley where we are located is as beautiful as ever. I'm happy for our four legged friends to enjoy again our large, flat grassy fenced in area for unleashed dogs on a 20 acre farm and wedding venue (Hidden River Events) next to the Swannanoa River. Parking is just outside the fence on the grass. There is a large deck with seating for relaxing while your pup(s) play. If it has rained within 24-48 hours of your visit, the spot may be muddy (even though it is a grass pasture) so it is good to bring towels for your pup. The fenced area has no trees so, there is an umbrella provided. If you use it, make sure to close it before you depart. This is a large farm and the distance from the sniff spot to the river is a good ways. You are welcome to walk your dog on a leash to the river if you don't see any other dogs on the property or an event going on. In 2025, we are not having many, if any, weddings, so you should be good to enjoy the river. If you have questions about where to walk to go to the river or if it's ok to enjoy more than the sniffspot itself, please text me at 828-458-5740. Horses and goats reside in their own fully contained pastures on the property away from the Sniff Spot. There is a water bucket on site to refill a water bowl if the bowl is empty when you arrive. Feel free to leash your dog and take him/her down to the river to play while you are on your visit.
