We are a 40 acre private family run horse ranch. We boast 2.3 miles of private trail systems perfect for those tired of the dangers of loose uncontrolled dogs in our public spaces. The 1 acre grass pasture is fully enclosed with no climb 6ft fencing, and grounded wire, and our onsite creek makes for the perfect place to cool off on a sunny day. We are a quiet, serene place to work or play just minutes from the hustle and bustle of city life. More about our trails: -Our Trails are PRIVATE PROPERTY, with no public access. -Our immediate neighbors, can and do occasionally walk on our property with or without their well behaved dogs. I ride/or walk our trails daily and I may see someone a few times in a month IF THAT, but there IS a possibility you could see a friendly pair in passing if all the stars align. -Our property’s outermost fence line at the very top of our hill boarders regional park land which is fenced by 4 strands of barbed wire. If your dog does not have a recall, it is suggested to leash at the marked point, as there is potential to see people off in the distance at the other side of the fence line. -We are an active farm and rotationally graze horses, pigs, cows, and chickens across our broad acreage. We both spread, and till our land to sustainably retain its beauty, and fertility. If you have a poop roller please by advised we have towels and hoses available onsite for use upon departure. Dog poop is removed from our grounds immediately. Manure from our ruminants IS NOT, as it is an integral part of our sustainability practice. On the interior portion of the park is a dirtbike track with a more rugged terrain and incline walking. Definitely more weeds, but if you are looking for a more off road feeling this is another option aside from the full pathway around the perimeter of the dirtbike track. A past guest let us know we needed better signage, so we got a bright blue sign printed and hung it on the fenced area. Another guest mistook the community garden (incompletely fenced) for the play area (completely fenced). If you see vegetables, the area is not completely fenced! You're welcome to explore, just be respectful of the gardeners and plants please. The avocado tree overhanging the play area is dropping fruit right now, so if your dog likes to eat random stuff on the ground please be careful! The play area is tucked between St Stephen’s in-the-Field Episcopal Church and the left hand fence (turn from Santa Teresa Blvd onto Avenida España, then take the first right and head to the back). There are two churches on the lot, ours is at the back, with ample off street parking and lots of gardens to explore, in addition to the enclosed play space. Feel free to message with any questions!

This place is amazing! So much space to run and sniff!! Really nice drive up there, and honestly feels like a “real” hike. Zerina was quick to respond to questions, and the directions were nice and clear. I agree with one of the reviews that most of the “trails” are uphill, not too many flat areas, but not too bad. Something to think about if you or your pups have a hard time going uphill. Other that that, we will def be back! Thanks so much for sharing this place 🫶🏻

We loved this Sniffspot! The Host was very responsive and friendly, and it’s very easy to get to. It’s a serene, gorgeous spot with a beautiful view. It has a short loop with a single-file trail that we walked around a few times during our visit while our dogs ran all over, and a beautiful handmade bench to sit for a few minutes and enjoy the view. There are a couple of fairly steep spots, but they are short and the Host had hiking poles for us to use. We didn’t end up needing them and my partner was fine in his tennis shoes. They also had a clean water bowl for the dogs and the entire spot is fenced. We have two dog-reactive dogs and there aren’t many places we can take them off-leash. They were so happy here! She was very accommodating by keeping her dog inside during our visit. We neither heard nor saw any other people or dogs. I highly recommend this spot!

This is such a fantastic spot! Host is communicative and friendly, and there are paths everywhere to explore with your dog. An hour isn’t enough! Absolutely loved it and Molly was worn out. Word of advice - you’ll need a code to access the road to get to this spot, so make sure you record it before you get on the road as the cell service (Verizon) isn’t very good.

This place was perfect for an introduction to off leash trail recall for our 7 month old pup, who doesn’t get a lot of off leash opportunities in the city, struggles with being overstimulated by most busy dog parks, and had parents who were nervous about unfenced and out of sight pups after a scary experience with a previous dog elsewhere. 10/10. She had so much fun exploring the variety of shrubs, textures (she loveddddd the deep pine needle beds), and watching the crazy sounding (to her) birds and turkeys. There’s a small bench for humans, and a rogue plastic Adirondack chair next to a stump for the humans. Will definitely be back. For the commenters who read about terrain difficulty, I found it pretty dang easy if you are a casual but semi regular hiker…. I had forgotten my hikers and did fine enough in Birkenstocks, though the pine needle beds were a bit slippery. To be honest, I don’t think hiking boots would have helped on steep sections covered by the needles, but they’re easy to avoid if you prefer! Also, at least when we went (mid Nov) we didn’t run into any burrs. Everything there we checked was soft and didn’t really stick in our dogs fur — huge win!

This was a fun spot for our pup to run around! I think next time I’d like to bring him a friend. Really beautiful views as well! I think most people would get it but we didn’t figure out that you need to press “#” before you put the code in for the gate to open. This was clear from Zerina’s instructions, we were just a bit frazzled because our cell phones didn’t have service when we got to the gate so we couldn’t check the number. Luckily there was someone there to help us out. (Worth being aware that service does cut out when driving to places in the Santa Cruz mountains if you have AT&T. I’ve heard Verizon is fine.)

Are dog fields safe?

If you are looking for an adventure, but also looking for safety, Sniffspot dog fields are a great option. While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, distracted dog owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private space for just you and doggy friends you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). Especially for training, privacy is ideal. You can even check the park amenities chart for amenities such as indoor training facilities, agility field, synthetic turf, exercise balls or field parking availability in advance. If inclement weather is an issue or poor field conditions, you can reschedule your visit up to 2 hours in advance.

What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog field?

We require that all four-legged friends have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Make sure to check host rules before visiting to ensure, for instance, that you are following allowable sports activities rules and any special events rules.

Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot field at the same time as me?

No. Facility rentals are for private play time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits, so this is perfect for a private adventure for you and your doggie friends, and perhaps a human friend. Hosts understand that many guests have dogs in training and are nervous owners. So when you book a Sniffspot dog field you have the entire private spot to yourself. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between time slots so you will not run into other guest dogs or a previous person when coming or leaving in the field parking area. Some hosts may have multiple fields, but there is always a buffer between fields.
