Our private, off-leash park, located just outside of Philomath city limits, is for dogs of all ages, sizes, and behavior levels. Easy access with parking only a few feet away. Additional space for extra large vehicles to park, including motorhomes or trucks. Reactive dogs are welcome! We offer the use of a large, fenced, level field for training, play time, or socializing. There is plenty of room to run, play fetch, or enjoy the wading pool in warm weather, with no unwelcome direct contact with other dogs or people. You are also welcome to add fur friends to your reservation; just please keep me posted if you will need to park more than two vehicles.

As winter approaches and post- icepocolyps logging winds down, I would like to test a pricing option. For the winter months, at least, I am going to offer sliding scale discounts. The guest can choose their pay rate for sanctuary use based on their moment-to-moment economic status. Discounts are as follows: $2 off (JMSS2); $4 off (JMSS4); $6 off (JMSS6). Just as a reminder, or for new inquiries, the effort and cost to recover/rebuild Jasper Memorial Sanctuary was extensive and expensive. Material costs were over $5000. Labor costs, had I hired all the hours worked, are over $15,000. The price increase for utilizing the Sanctuary is small in comparison to the expenses incurred from the loss (0.1%). Thank you to all my amazing guests who have given your dog(s) opportunity to find their calm within by visiting Jasper Memorial Sanctuary. It is amazing to see your dogs and you finding your inner peace. Thank you too for following all of the rules to keep this SS sustainable into the future. The fee set is the amount needed to allow me to keep this site open and provide improvements when needed. (I understand other sites charge less, but I've learned charging less is not financially sustainable. Hosts do not earn what they charge). I love hosting new and returning guests. RECENT IMPROVEMENTS/RESTORATION: Approximately 80 damaged/downed trees removed. 40 uprooted stumps ground out 340' of new 5' fencing installed 140' fencing repaired New entrance gate/location created 100s perhaps 1000s of poison oak dug out (it's still present, just fewer) Culvert installed at entrance with gravel path to gate (pending) New signs installed A 6'x6' sand box has been added. Please encourage digging in this location only. Discourage digging in all other locations for the safety of everyone and the preservation of the environment. A poop bag dispenser has been installed on a post near the gate and will be kept filled. Jasper Memorial Sanctuary, named in memory of my soul dog Jasper, is no larger than 1.3 acres in and fully fenced. The acreage is a combination of mid-age dense timber, new reforestation, devastation zone and open grass. The area is flanked on two sides by driveway. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀. Be respectful of wildlife. Deer and turkey roam the property and consider the space their home. If there are wild animals in the sanctuary enclosure upon your arrival, please keep your dog(s) on leash until the other animals have vacated the area. Under no circumstance are dogs allowed to chase wildlife. Domestic and rescued animals that live on the property include horses, donkeys, geese and chickens. 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 and do not approach any of these animals. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 is about 50' away from the entrance gate. Please keep dog(s) on leash until within the fenced enclosure. The pastures are cross-fenced, allowing for room to explore but not too far. An indoor riding arena is available as an add-on. It is enclosed on three sides, keeping the wind and weather out during playtime. It is well-lit for evening use. Horses offer additional entertainment but are always a safe distance with a large space (enough to drive a large truck through) between fence lines. The animals are not reactive to the dogs even when barking at them. The farm animals don't respond to the dogs, so often the dogs move on to exploring the space. We have some simple agility items in the space along with balls and other toys to help entertain both you and your dogs. As a guest, you have access to: * Fully Fenced Acre of play space for off-leash adventures * Water - Lift the green handle to start the flow of water * Poop baggies * White garbage can * Dog towels, clean ones in the clear container, and dirty ones go into the grey tote. We ask you to use 1 towel per visit if possible. * Porta Potty * Shelter with chairs and a small table you can put anywhere in the field during your visit we just ask that you put them back when you are done. * During the summer days we include a doggie pool. They are blue kiddie pools. Double them up when you use them so they are easier to empty and less likely to break. Please dump the pool and return it to the corner when you are finished. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: This is a field that has uneven ground including mole and gopher holes. Please watch your step. Please keep within the Sniffspot area. If you happen to throw a ball over a fence just message me and I can retrieve it for you. It is important to stay outside of areas marked private property. Those gates also have extra locks, but we want to be sure everyone stays safe. USE OF INDOOR ARENA: During harsh weather (over 95 degrees or winter would be those days of wind and heavy rain) the indoor arena may be an option. If you loved your visit, please share your experience with family and friends! **Interesting ecological fact if you see rainbow coloring on top of some of the standing water… it is NOT from chemicals or an oil slick. Here’s the explanation. 🙂 A common naturally occurring oily sheen originates from the seed cones of cypress trees. The cones usually fall into the water below the cypress, and an obvious rainbow sheen forms on the surface around the seed pod. In puddles of woodlands or around the edges of stagnant or very slowly moving water, it is common to find sheens covering the water in and about leaves and other vegetation. It is tempting to wonder what form of pollution resulted in the sheens, but the answer is microscopic - and natural. Tiny iron-loving bacteria of many types may be involved. A common tale is that some species of bacteria that live in areas with no oxygen (anaerobic conditions) get their energy by converting Ferric Iron (Fe III) to Ferrous Iron (Fe II) (chemists call this process reduction). As the Ferrous Iron moves through the ground water, it encounters water with oxygen, chemically fuses with the oxygen (chemists call this oxidation), then precipitates (separates from the water) and floats on the surface as a colorful sheen. There are species of bacteria that may help accelerate the oxidation process, and the most common is Theobacillis ferroxidans. At times, a significant area of the water’s surface may be covered and the sheen is as reflective as a mirror, having little rainbow-effect.

There is a small outdoor kennel if you need a place to temporarily separate your dogs, for example for training purposes to work with one dog at a time. Please do not leave dogs unattended in this space - It is for very temporary housing with you on the premises. The yard has an l shape which can allow you to go out of sight of your dog for training purposes. Downsides: Access is currently via a somewhat narrow/awkward path. There is a large brush pile in the backyard currently. One neighbor has dogs that like to fence fight. They aren't out all of the time and the neighbors will usually call them away when they start barking.

We loved our first sniff spot visit! Toys and plenty of water available. Secure fencing. It is very close to the road for pups who are sensitive to bikes or cars. Some cat poops - warning for fellow poop eating dogs. Easy to find, parking directions very clear. No other dogs or cats visible, appreciate the protection for my reactive pup.

Our first sniff spot! This is a large, completely and securely fenced, grassy area, perfect for frisbee-throwing and ball -chasing. Our two dobermans loved it. We have a "I don't like other dogs" dog so this was a great alternative to a dog park. It was totally clean, with large buckets of water, a (wet, it's been rainy) bench, lots of toys, and poop bags. There are large trees along one side which would provide shade at some times of the day but not when we were there (morning). We did not see any other dogs or people The location worked well for us as we were leaving I-5 to head to the coast. It's a bit off I-5 but I might still come here while traveling just because it was so nice. The directions on Sniff Spot were more accurate than our Google maps. Communication with the host was excellent. All in all, exactly what we wanted.

Really enjoyed our sniffspot time at Philomath Puppy Park! Everything was just as described in the listing. Fencing was secure, parking and access was super easy! The Sniffspot was easy to find and get into. It is a large, securely fenced pasture with relatively even ground. There are a few gopher holes, but not enough that I was worried about my pup hurting himself. The fencing on all but one side is tall and very secure. The entrance side is pretty short, but my pup has never shown any interest in jumping over fences, so I wasn't worried. We did not see people or any other animals, which was perfect for my reactive pup. There were even several toys out, and a bucket of water. It had been raining off and on that day, but the field was not soggy. Another bonus -- there were no droppings (horse, goat, rabbit, deer, etc) for my dog to try and eat! This spot was absolutely perfect for us and we will definitely be back!

We had a great time at the Philomath Puppy Park!! I accidentally left dog toys at home and was excited to find some toys available for us to use, including several balls that were a hit with our puppy! The area was large, fenced in, clean, and super easy to get to and enjoy. Our little aussie ran nonstop for the full hour and we all had such a great time. We will be back! Thank you!!
