We have 75 acres here in historic Litchfield with the original 1830 farmhouse and a big red barn. We may be closing the meadow on various days to do clean up and build some fun new things for the dogs and you! We have a couple areas for your to explore. A smaller area with shelter and taller fencing that is lit up at night. Or you can go through the gate to our "wilder" area to the left of the barn. Please note the entire SS accessible property is fenced. There is a driveway gate, and a second gate to enter our SniffSpot. From December first on, the spot will only be open if we don't have a significant amount of snow. Please check back regularly to see if any slots are open. There is no water in the Winter. Situated on a scenic working farm, the Pooch Playground spans about 1/4 acre and is fully enclosed. Tucked next to a small woodland area, this location offers enough distance from the house and barn for a feeling of privacy. The field adjacent to the area is preserved for wildlife. We mow the spot every week, except during drought conditions. We purposely maintain longer grass (2-3 inches instead of cutting it too short) to withstand high traffic and dog urine. We leave 'islands' of grass long for sniffing and exploration. Look at the pictures of the spot. If a toy ends up in the field and you don't want to walk through the tall grass, let us know, and we will retrieve it.

It is so great to have a Sniffspot not too far away from Portland! Thank you Bud for sharing your yard with those of us not fortunate enough to have one of our own. The dogs are unable to see through the wooden fence so it minimizes the level of distraction. We could hear neighbors, including kids playing basketball, which usually triggers my dogs but they were okay with it. There are a couple of Adirondack chairs where we could relax while the dogs sniffed around. Bud provided water, a bowl and poop disposal items. The dogs had a great time. The only thing I’d note is that there’s a short segment of fence where a dog could crawl under. Mine didn’t attempt this and they have good recall so it wasn’t an issue for us, but if you have an escape artist, just be alert.
