Leashes are required when close to the house as we have cats, dogs and other farm animals but, once you get a little farther back, let them run.

My home is located conveniently close to Massanutten Resort and Brix and Columns vineyard. There are friendly cats on the property, and they do not typically have any issues with dogs. They may try to interact with you, but feel free to shoo them away. With advanced request I can attempt to contain them for the duration of your visit, but this is not a guarantee.

The Haven boasts a natural landscape with some uneven ground (please exercise caution) and grass maintained at 2-3 inches. There are no nighttime lights, so please plan accordingly. The property is surrounded by forest on three sides, while the remaining side offers scenic views of an adjacent field that should be enjoyed only as part of the view. Embracing Nature & Neighbors: You’ll often see local wildlife such as deer, squirrels, rabbits, turkeys, turtles, and various birds. Our own dogs will be indoors during your visit, but our neighbors are accustomed to our vocal pups and some have their own who may "chat back" if your dogs are talkative! An acre of fully fenced in yard, an additional acre of open field (fenced on 2 sides only) with large trees, and a shallow river access that’s great for swimming and playing! Go any direction from there. But... For most direct trail to creek walk to end of riding arena. On far side of arena there is a double gate. Trail is just past this gate. Follow this trail into woods. Creek is at bottom of hill. Once at creek multiple trails intersect near creek. There is also a trail on other side of creek that will weave back around. Trails are somewhat rugged. Watch for fallen debris from trees, ruts in ground caused by flooding, exposed roots are trip hazards. Watch your step.

I have 6 acres directly on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Great spot for small mouth fishing. Beautiful isolated 13-acre spot in the country. There is a clear, well-maintained marked trail through the woods to an area with springs, a creek, and a watershed. Moving on down the 1/4 mile driveway past the house is a path down to the Tye River that has a nice-sized riverbank (beach) for romping and water splashing. Swimming dogs can venture onto the rocks to explore the river. Those who want to exercise can hike up/down the stream, climb big rocks, and other obstacles. This highly wooded area has lots to explore “off path” and on path, so you can never experience everything in one visit. This is heaven for dogs and for those who prefer a challenging exploration vs a standard field or yard to explore. The walk to the creek/springs/watershed is a beautiful, relatively easy walk. The river walk, while there is a trail, is pretty steep and rocky, and it's a good workout to get back up. Join us at Bear’s Creek for an adventure your dog will thank you for!
