Cavalier Rescue Foundation

The Cavalier Rescue Foundation of Arizona is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We are a small team of volunteers dedicated to rescuing neglected and/or unwanted Cavaliers and placing them in qualified and loving homes throughout the Valley. All of our Cavaliers are owner turn-ins, breeder surrenders, or rescued from puppy mills. Our mission is to help every beloved Cavalier find a forever home where they will receive the lifelong care and attention they deserve. A majority of our dogs come from puppy mills found throughout the Midwest. A puppy mill is a large scale breeding facility where female dogs churn out puppies for a profit with little to no true care for the health and welfare of the dogs. These dogs are left to live in kennels for their entire lives with minimal human contact. The females are bred every heat starting at 6-10 months of age, and their puppies are sold either locally, online, or at pet stores nationwide. Our rescue is unique in that we often have to pay for our Cavaliers at puppy mill auctions. These events are held in states such as Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma where hundreds of dogs are tagged with a number, listed in a catalog, and one by one brought up to the auction block where they are simply sold to the highest bidder. We concentrate on purchasing Cavaliers from complete kennel sellouts. This means a breeder is selling everything; all their dogs, their buildings, kennels, equipment, etc. The money that we pay the breeder to rescue these Cavaliers will typically go to the person's retirement, and not be reinvested in other dogs. Also, this keeps the Cavaliers that we save from going to other breeders where they will use them again and again as money making machines. Cavaliers are an amazingly resilient breed, and no matter how they are previously treated they learn to trust and love their human companions. Rescued Cavaliers make wonderful pets, and the bond that forms between them and owner is indescribable.

Adoption Policy

Steps • Complete the online Adoption Application. You only need to fill this out and apply once; not per dog. However, applications must be submitted every 365 days. Please note that the actual adopter MUST be the person filling out the application. We do not adopt dogs out as “surprises”. • We do require a $25 adoption application fee every 365 days. • A phone interview and home check are required for all potential adopters. Our current waiting list is around 3-6 months. • We will set up a meet and greet once we have established that you are a great candidate for one of our dogs. • You may contact us via email (not Instagram or Facebook) after you submit an application, including photos of your home and family and anything else that you think would provide us insight to help us find the best dog for your family. • Watch our Instagram and Facebook! We will occasionally post available dogs who need specific requirements AND if they seem to be a GREAT MATCH FOR YOUR FAMILY, reach out via email to express your interest. This will trigger a review of your application for that particular dog. Application Fee • Application fees must be paid within 24 hours of submitting the application, or your application will be considered void. We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion. • The fee is non refundable. • Please understand that paying the $25 fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy or dog you are interested in. Our goal is to place our cavaliers in homes that are suited for their individual needs. • We accept applications for our cavaliers until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements, they have been contacted to review the adoption process, and have agreed to all of the terms to move forward. • Please note that if you are outside of our 60 mile radius from the Scottsdale/Phoenix area we adopt on a case by case basis regardless of paid application fee. We do not ship dogs, and you will be required to fly or drive to Arizona. We do not allow our dogs to fly under the plane. They MUST be in the cabin with you. The adopter is responsible for all costs associated with this. Placement • Our process is thorough, and while we do not place dogs on a first-come, first-serve basis, we DO give preference to the family who has been waiting the longest when all else is equal. • You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy or dog, we cannot approve your application. • Please understand we "work for the dogs" and making great matches is paramount. • Be patient! The right match is worth the wait! Adoption • We require a minimum adoption donation of up to $850 for an adult dog and up to $1,800 for puppies. • The adoption fee for puppies will vary as we do not subsidize the overall cost of a puppy with donations. • You will be required to fill out the adoption contract and pay the adoption donation prior to being able to take a dog home. • We require a 24 hour waiting period after the meet and greet before you can officially take the dog home, pending any medical care (spay/neuter). • We do not spay/neuter puppies younger than 6 months. You will be required to provide proof of spay/neuter by 8 months old.

Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
