Half the path is mulch and half is a wooden boardwalk. The boardwalk section was a tiny bit slippery and some spots were not quite level, and I'd be mindful of a very small dog. It was quiet, had an adorable little brook with a seating area and the stream was very clean. My boy had so much fun!
