I have my bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Kansas State University. I began training dolphins after college, where I got my toes wet with positive reinforcement based training. I entered the dog training world and was met with heavy aversives/punishment styles, which I did not like as I saw the fallout between both human and animal. I studied and completed my KPA CTP certification, as well as my CPDT-KA. I now work for Believe in Dog Training, where we teach clients how to train their dogs humanely.
Certifications:
KPA CTP, CPDT-KA

Dog training methods:
At Believe in Dog we require a behavior questionnaire before a consultation. We are positive reinforcement-based and strive to teach pet parents how to effectively and humanely communicate with their companions, regardless of the problem behavior. We do not advocate for prong collars, shock collars, or choke chains. We want relationships and training to be based off trust, communication, and positive associations.
Why I became a dog trainer:
I had a passion for training animals and became a dog nerd for animal psychology/behavior. I find it very rewarding to help a person see what they can achieve with the dog in front of them once they understand what to look for and what to do. A community of positive people and endless support continues to strengthen my love for training.
My favorite part of being a dog trainer:
Seeing the moment things *click* for the human (and the dog!). I also enjoy seeing dogs progress in their training journey.
My #1 dog training tip:
SLOW DOWN! Thinly slice behavior into achievable steps for your dog. Expecting too much too soon can ruin training. I also find it helpful to ditch training when you're frustrated, no one will benefit.

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
