For over 14 years, Joan Marie has worked with dogs of all ages, all histories, and all breeds at PAWS Chicago, the largest no-kill humane organization in the Midwest. 90% of the dogs she works with have behavior issues - without training and enrichment, some could become quite difficult to place in a home due to anxiety, fearfulness, and destructive behaviors. She has taught handling and canine body language to animal rescue volunteers, provided foster counseling, conducted pack walks, playgroups, and dog introductions. Joan Marie has been recognized with several awards for her work at PAWS Chicago. In 2022 she completed the Karen Pryor Academy Professional Dog Trainer program and passed with distinction. In 2023 she received her CPDT-KA certification. In the fall of 2022 she launched Darn Good Dogs Chicago, a private, in-home positive reinforcement training business for Chicago dog parents. DGDC has grown enormously in just two-and-a-half years with another trainer on staff and reaching more dog families than ever. "Truly the big dog personalities often come with some unexpected features underneath! There is no greater feeling for me than to see a once badly behaved, anxious dog become a happy, easy to walk, and sociable pup. I bring my tools as a teacher of 20+ years, my problem-solving skills, and my canine experience and knowledge to my training - and can't wait to see you feel more relaxed, have more fun, and take great pride in your trained darn good dog."
Certifications:
KPA, CPDT-KA
More info about Joan Marie Dauber's dog training:
I provide in-home training and I specialize in behavior modification training for issues like reactivity, resource guarding, fearfulness, and overarousal. I also offer Day Training for clients looking for longer training plans.
Behavioral issue focus:
Reactivity, resource guarding, profound shy/fearfulness, anxiety, overarousal
Dog training methods:
I start the process with a free 20 minute Discovery Call followed by an in-person 60 minute Consultation where we discuss a potential training plan. I sell packages (both for traditional coaching and Day Training) of no less than six sessions. After finishing an initial package, clients can then opt for smaller packages or single sessions to continue training.
Why I became a dog trainer:
Joan Marie became a trainer after a lifelong love of dogs and after volunteering at PAWS Chicago for 12 years, wanting to be able to do more to help the dogs who were the most in need of training.
My favorite part of being a dog trainer:
I love one-on-one work and engaging a dog's brain when previously fear, anxiety, or arousal prevented thinking. That's where the real learning begins!
My #1 dog training tip:
Talk less and stay calm, even if you are faking it!

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
