Animal Rescue of Carroll (ARC) is a group of volunteers who began working together in 2006 to help improve the welfare for domestic animals in Carroll County.
Since its start, Animal Rescue of Carroll has:
- Grown to more than 100 active volunteers who help with the day to day operations including fostering, processing applications, grant writing, caring for dogs in the shelter, and much, much more.
- On January 27th, 2009, ARC officially became a 501c3 Non-Profit organization allowing the public to make tax-deductible donations.
- On February 3rd, 2011, ARC received its shelter license from the Iowa Department of Agriculture. Volunteers worked to convert a small hog confinement building into a full operational dog shelter.
- Since achieving its shelter license, ARC now assists Carroll County's local pounds with animals facing euthanasia.
- ARC is operating solely on generous volunteers who dedicate time to pets needing help as well spending time with their families, personal pets, and working their paying jobs. We would not be where we are today without our volunteers.
- ARC receives no government funding. It operates from donations from the public, grants, fundraisers, and adoptions fees. Many times the adoption fees for an animal do not cover the cost of its care while awaiting for adoption. Without the generous support from our community and beyond, ARC would not be able to assist the 200+ animals that come into our care every year.
Mission and Vision
The Animal Rescue of Carroll, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2006. Animal rescue of Carroll will host a dog and cat shelter servicing and caring for lost, unwanted or homeless dogs and cats, with a focus on adoption, education, cruelty prevention, spay and neuter programs, and reuniting lost dogs and cats with their owners.
If you have a litter of kittens you are looking to surrender to us, they must have lived inside a house for 2 to 3 weeks and will need to pass a behavior assessment before we will agree to take them in to our custody.
Adoption Policy
Adoption Process
The following outlines the process for adopting a pet through ARC:

Applicants will meet pet they are interested in adopting.
After applicant is approved, arrangement for adoption will be made. This includes signing the ARC contract.
Typical Adoption Fees
Dogs $200
Cats $75
Adoption fees may be higher for some breeds.
A note from Animal Rescue of Carroll, Inc board of directors: ARC board reserves the right to change the adoption fees on a case by case basis for dogs or cats, due to age, healthy, breed, or length of stay in the shelter.

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures.
