Central Texas Dachshund Rescue was started in September of 2000. Our membership has grown yearly, providing more foster families and volunteers to help find loving, forever homes for our dachshunds.
We were incorporated in September of 2001 and we received 501(c)3 status in February 2003. And, despite our name, we are no longer only in Central Texas, but have members and volunteers throughout the state.

Adoption Policy
Adoption Guidelines
Our primary concern is to find the right dog for the right home. Due to our unique situation of having our dogs in foster homes, we can usually gauge if a dog will be happiest with other dogs or without other dogs in the home, if they will be okay with cats, and if they'll be okay with children.
We work with applicants to find the right energy level of dog for their family and the right temperament. All of this pre-adoption work helps to ensure that this adoption will be the last one our dachshund must face.
A completed adoption application is required, including the name and number of your current veterinarian and landlord, if applicable. We will contact your current vet, landlord and personal references, if needed.
A home visit will also be required before an adoption is final. Do not apply for a dog to give as a gift or to use as a hunting dog. CTDR does not adopt to homes where a pet has been abandoned in the past, where pets have not been kept up-to-date on their vaccinations and heartworm prevention, or where there are currently unsterilized adult dogs or cats in the home.
Though we don't require it, we also encourage you to microchip your dachshund (and other pets) if it hasn't already been done.
Transport
We accept applications from outside the state of Texas. However, we do ask that you either fly or drive to wherever the dog is being fostered to meet and adopt your new family member. We do not ship dogs or allow them to fly cargo so please be sure to check the airlines for pet transport guidelines. If you agree to this policy, please proceed with the application process.
Environment
Homes with fenced yards are strongly preferred, but exceptions are made based on the size, age and activity level of the dog. We do accept applicants that live in apartments or other rental situations, as long as the landlord approves of the adoption. We require a landlord reference for all renters.
Process
1.) View our list of CTDR DOGS.
2.) Complete an ADOPTION APPLICATIONand list the names of all the dogs you're interested in. If you don't currently see a dog that matches your family, please tell us more about what you're looking for. We have new dogs weekly and will contact you if a dog comes in that meets your requirements. Don't forget to list the name and number of your current veterinarian and landlord, if applicable! We will contact your current vet, landlord and personal references, if needed.
3.) After we receive your application, we'll contact you to discuss the specifics of what you're looking for. We will try to contact you within 3-7 days, but we are all volunteers and have full time jobs, so be patient with us!
4.) Once we have completed all vet and reference checks, we will schedule a home visit where someone from our organization will come to your home and meet you and your family and any pets you currently have. The entire process can take up to 30 days to complete.
5.) Finally, we will schedule a time when your family and pet(s) can meet your desired rescue dachshund. As all our dachshunds are in foster homes and not in one central location, we will need to coordinate schedules to arrange this last meeting. If a long transport is involved, we ask the potential adopter to arrange the transportation of the dog. Please see our GUIDELINES section for further information about transports.
6.) Once you have selected a dog to meet, the foster will be contacted. At that time, the foster will be given 48 hours in which to decide whether or not they want to adopt their foster. Once the 48 hour time is up and if the foster declines adoption, the approved adopter will then get the opportunity to adopt the dog. At the time of the meet and greet, the foster will have an Adoption Contract for you to sign and at that time, the appropriate adoption fee will need to be paid. All checks are to be made out to CTDR or you can pre-pay the Adoption fee through the CTDR Pay Pal. Once you have adopted your CTDR dog, all vet records will be released once the 14 day trial period is over.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
