Testimonials
See all testimonials"First I was a volunteer at Lucky Dog Refuge. I gave some time to walk dogs. Walking dogs that had recently arrived, it was apparent to see how the staff and protocols were instrumental in calming the dogs and helping them look forward to some continuity in their daily lives. I was happy to become an adoptee and continue to support this refuge so that other dogs get the opportunity that it offers."

"We were not in the market for dog, rescue or otherwise. We were at a dog park in Stamford with my daughter and her designer pup. And then HE walked in. First day out with his foster mom, Becky with a blue adopt me sign on. I went over and that was it. He had the most soulful eyes and we bonded immediately. Becky and I chatted for a while, I learned his story--rescued in the South with his two brothers, in a shelter for 6 months while all 3 were treated for distemper and he had just come North that week. He still had some issues with heartworm, whatever. I didn't care. In the 2.5 years since we brought him home, he has added so much joy to our lives. He is gentle and sweet--never barks unless he thinks we are in danger. We renamed him Max because he is MAX-IN-A-MILLION. Love him so."

"This rescue is truly wonderful. I’ve been volunteering for a couple months now and It’s managed and run so seamlessly so that every dog gets lots of playtime and socialization with other dogs on the turf and a nice hour long walk with volunteers too every day. They open their doors to all types of dogs including ones that have physical ailments as well. The love they pour into their dogs is so evident by their ability to transform dogs from timid, shy and overwhelmed into confident, happy and affectionate dogs. They work tirelessly around the clock to ensure the well being and safety of their dogs and they truly deserve recognition for the tremendous work they have done in saving dogs lives."

"Hi! My daughter is a volunteer at Lucky Dog and she everyday tells me how sweet all dogs are, how well organized the shelter is, all the fun the dogs have having a walk, being pet or playing at their turf. Lucky Dog made hundreds of dogs and my daughter very happy."

"Lucky Dog refuge has impressed me for many reasons but it stands out because how well organized they are. It's a well-oiled machine. They make sure volunteering is easy and safe for all dogs. They state rules to keep dogs safe, we sign up online so they keep track of all walks. The schedule is extremely wide and flexible to fit all availability. They are located in the perfect place because the dogs get to play on the turf by the water or have a relaxing walk around the harbor in the newest and nicest part of Stamford. Stuff members always say thank you to all volunteers after each walk. Dogs are up to date with vaccines, medications and are also trained. They do an amazing job on Instagram. How they advertise each adoptable dog is perfect because on top of the description, they mention how the perfect home and owner look like for each on of them. They make sure that every dog goes to someone that is a perfect fit. They reach many people through their posts and we're all excited to see their next one. They also use the platform to show all the fun they have, advertise lost dog calls, and mention what things are the most in need so we can donate and they can keep doing the amazing job they do. We're very grateful for Lucky dog!!"

"Lucky dog is an unbelievable rescue. They take on challenging, expensive medical cases and pull dogs from dire situations without a second thought. They saved my Marvin, a 70 lb boxer, Great Pyrenees mix that needed orthopedic surgery for a broken leg. They ensure the dogs in their care have routine, are exercised and socialized properly, and they go the extra mile when it comes to getting professional training in order to get their dogs adopted. I recommend them to everyone I know. They are fantastic!"

"I cannot say enough great things about Lucky Dog refuge. They are an incredible organization that help so many dogs from all walks of life. They truly care deeply for every dog that crosses their path.
I started my journey with LDR by volunteering and then, I was lucky enough to adopt one of their dogs and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My dog (Rory) still gets so excited if we stop by LDR or pass them in Stamford on a walk! You can immediately tell that Rory loves them deeply because of how well they took care of him during his time at LDR."

"They’re the best, we adopted a great dog from them and they have really gone above and beyond to be there for us whenever we have any questions as first time pup parents. They do amazing things for dogs in need and seek out unique situations where they are able to save pups others may not be equipped too.
Beyond operating an incredible rescue they also put on awesome events that help bring together the broader local community.
Really can’t say enough good things about Lucky Dog!"
