The Mile High Labrador Retriever Mission, (MHLRM), a 501(c)3 non-profit public charity, is dedicated to alleviating the needless death and suffering of homeless or misplaced (lost and stray) purebred Labrador Retrievers, as well as Labrador, mixes mostly in high-kill overpopulated pet areas that typically are out of state. By rescuing and rehabilitating homeless Labradors in high-kill areas, vigorously promoting responsible dog ownership through active participation in pet-related events, and through our education program, we strive for a better life for each of our animals. The majority of dogs that you see available for adoption with MHLRM were previously in county pounds or shelters that find themselves at capacity and are forced to euthanize, or dogs that have simply "sat on the shelf" and not gotten adopted quick enough and have run out of time. Many of these facilities use euthanasia methods that are considered inhumane by the majority of the US population but are still being implemented (ie. the gas chamber method or "heart-stick" method). We are active in the metro areas of Colorado and Texas, and we belong to an amazing network of volunteers across the country who have worked hard in very rural areas to help get Labradors to safety since 2009. We have rescued Labs and lab mixes from Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming to name a few. When we learn of a dog in need, we coordinate foster arrangements and appropriate health care where the dog is and also here in Colorado, and then we attempt to bring them here to Colorado and MHLRM, find them an amazing family, and give them a new outlook on life.

Adoption Policy

Before we begin, please know that the majority of our adoptable animals never make it to our website as our adoption coordinators are working behind the scenes with our approved adopters. Therefore, the website does not reflect ALL the animals we have in our care that are available for adoption. If you are interested in simply submitting an application and working with an adoption coordinator, please leave dog selection as “unknown” and the Mile High Lab Mission team will match you up with the best options for you, your family, and your lifestyle. Please understand that if you do select a specific dog, your application may not be the only one received for that pup but again, our adoption coordinator will work to find the best pup for you. Our placement process is very fluid and availability can change quickly. After you submit your application, you will hear back from a member of our volunteer adoption team. We are a volunteer-based organization and appreciate your patience. In the interim, do not fret, applications are processed in the order they are received. You have not lost your place in the queue. If multiple applications were submitted for the same dog or puppy, the first application received is the first application to be considered for that pup. When you adopt you save two lives! We look forward to welcoming you into the Mile High Lab Mission family.

David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners. Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature. David is based in Salem, MA.
