I adopted a Saint Bernard from One of a Kind when the organization was in its infancy but working so hard to find homes for animals. They have grown but never lost their love and desire to find just the right home for each and every rescue by careful screening of adopters and providing loving, clean temporary quarters.Michelle Tognetti
One of A Kind Pet Rescue is a non-profit organization founded in November 2005 and is funded by private donations. The organization is dedicated to saving animal lives, rescuing pets in imminent danger of euthanasia, spaying/neutering and adoption of homeless animals into appropriate, loving homes.
We are a no-time-limit shelter, and no adoptable animal is euthanized. Many of our animals come from Animal Control Facilities (the pound) just prior to their scheduled euthanasia. Sick or injured animals brought to us by Good Samaritans are often given priority. Owner surrenders and strays are accepted when space is available.
Mission and Vision
OUR MISSION: To save the lives of animals in imminent danger of euthanasia and enrich the lives of people through rescue, spaying/neutering, adoption, and advocacy on behalf of homeless pets.
Adoption Policy
One of A Kind Pet Rescue adopts cats & dogs into loving, appropriate homes. We require all adopters to visit the rescue, meet the pet, and complete both an application and interview process. Adopters must be at least 18 years of age, have a stable home and ability to properly care for their pet. We verify residency and obtain landlord approvals if applicable. Adopted dogs must also meet existing family dogs prior to adoption. All pets are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and flea/tick/worm treated prior to adoption.

"We adopted our Charlie (formerly KC) from OOAK almost two years ago. He was our first rescue dog we’ve had and he definitely won’t be the last. The adoption process went smoothly, along with the meet and greet with our other dog. OOAK does such great work in the community with all sorts of fundraising events. They are the #1 animal rescue group in Ohio!"

"For the past 20 months, I have been volunteering weekly at OOAK Pet Rescue in Akron, Ohio. It is truly my joy, my pleasure! The staff consistently show such unconditional love, concern, care, respect, and commitment for the dogs and cats there. Like people, some animals are more difficult than others and yet, regardless of the ensuing challenges, I have never seen even the most trying dog or cat treated with anything but patience, kindness, compassion, and care to help heal and rehabilitate them into ultimately a great companion animal. I love too that no animal has a time limit on their OOAK stay. Some have been there for extended periods and are always given the same care, love, and commitment as the newest arrival. Plus, they have the added advantage of invariably becoming staff and volunteer favorites!
The work is hard - emotionally and physically - and ceaseless but the OOAK staff are truly remarkable and inspiring. Plus, many volunteers clearly wholeheartedly embrace the mission of OOAK and donate so much time, effort, and energy in giving these precious dogs and cats the best possible lives...present and future."

"I have been working with One of A Kind Pets since 2017. I “volunteer” in a different way. I help run an animal advocate group in West Virginia. We pull animals from our local shelters, take in owner surrender animals and advocate for them to One of A Kind. They have been a wonderful rescue partner for so many animals over the years. They continue to take animals that other rescue groups overlook. Most times I don’t even send a picture of the animal I am asking about. Just age, size and what vetting they have had. One of A Kind has helped so many medical animals from our community. The cat program takes Felv+ more than any other rescue. They are not afraid to take bonded pairs, seniors, or the beat up street cat.
Our advocate group is very thankful to be a small “part” of this wonderful rescue."

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
