Pintler Pets is a private, non-profit humane society in Anaconda, Montana. We receive no governmental funding, and operate on private donations, grants, and adoption fees. Pintler Pets serves people and pets from across Montana through pet rescue, re-homing, and adoption services. All pets are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and vaccinated prior to being adopted.

Mission and Vision

To aid in the journey of finding forever homes for abandoned, homeless, and surrendered pets while preventing overpopulation and creating a more humane Montana.

Adoption Policy

Adoption Process At Pintler Pets, we pride ourselves on finding the best possible fit for both the adopter and adoptee. Many pets end up being returned to a shelter due to a misunderstanding, lack of patience, or a feeling of being overwhelmed and sometimes, pets and families are not a good match. In order to prevent these upsetting situations, careful screening is pivotal for success. Our adoption process includes an application review, reference checks, a vet check (if applicable), and in certain situations, a home visit. 1 / Find Your Match. Check out our adoptable pets to find the best match for your family, home, and lifestyle. You can sort the page by newest or oldest additions. We’d love to see our longer term residents go HOME! Don't see your perfect match? Just check back - more animals are added throughout the week. If you have questions about a specific pet, feel free to contact us. 2 / Adoption Application. Whether you think you found your perfect match or you want to meet the whole crew to see if sparks fly, an approved adoption application is required to to kick start the adoption process. Our adoption application is designed to help us determine if a home matches a pet’s needs and to also assist you in finding a pet most compatible with your lifestyle. Every pet deserves a good home: one that will provide stability, comfort, friendship and safety in addition to basic needs such as food, shelter and medical care. The questions are intentionally thorough and plentiful, they are meant to create the best match possible between parent and pet. In addition to the adoption application, we will call a personal reference and your landlord if you are a residential renter. We do require a vet reference however we will work with you if you are a new pet owner. Fill out the entire application as incomplete applications will not be processed. 3 / Applicant Screening. After preliminary review of your application, and if our adoption coordinator feels you may be a good match, you will be contacted to discuss detailed information about the animal(s) you are interested in along with additional information about you. Please understand there are various reasons someone may not be contacted: • It could be that the dog/cat that you are applying for has an all-star personality and very popular and has received several applications. • It could be that we are already working with an applicant. • It could be that we don’t think it’s a good match. If we think you are not a good match for that particular pet, it DOES NOT mean we think you would be a bad pet owner in any way. 4 / Reference Checks. Based on your screening, if you and the pet are determined to be a good potential fit, the adoption coordinator will follow-up with your listed references to confirm the information provided is accurate and true. • Landlord: If you rent a home or apartment, we will confirm with your landlord that your rental is pet-friendly and that there is adequate indoor and outdoor space (specifically for dogs). • Vet Checks: We will contact your listed veterinarian to confirm that all of the pets in your home (current and past) were seen annually for wellness checks, kept up-to-date on vaccinations, and were on preventative treatments. If you are a first time pet owner, this requirement will be waived however, we highly recommend having a local veterinary clinic in mind at the time of applying. • Personal Reference: A personal reference will be contacted to gain insight into the environment in which the pet would be kept if it were adopted. • Home Visits: In certain situations, home visits may be required based on the animal’s history, special needs, or environmental requirements. Please ensure all references are notified ahead of time that a Pintler staff member may be reaching out. 5 / Meet-n-Greet. If the application screening and reference checks are satisfactory, your application will be approved and you will be contacted with the good news and can schedule a private meet-n-greet. The entire family including children and any four-legged friends living in the household may be requested to join the meet-n-greet. Again, we are simply making sure the home we place our beloved adopted pets in, are safe and loving environments, for both the pet and the family. Please Note: The shelter environment can be noisy and often unsettling for its residents, especially for those pets who may have spent their entire life in a home with the same family. For these reasons, it is not uncommon for shelter pets to show signs of sensory overload such as anxiousness, over-excitement, aggression, stranger danger, fear based behavior, and alert barking. When you are visiting one of our pets, please be patient and understanding. Spend some time one-on-one time with them outside or in one of our designated meet-n-greet areas. 6 / Homeward Bound. If the meet-n-greet goes well, you will have the opportunity to complete the adoption process which includes signing the adoption contract, paying the adoption fee, and what makes it all worth it in the end - taking your new family member home.

Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature. David is based in Salem, MA.
