ENRICHING THE LIVES OF OUR SHELTER ANIMALS
While nothing can compare to the comforts of home, Precious Paws strives to provide an enriching environment for our shelter animals. Founded in 1991 as Hibbing Animal Shelter and Humane Society (Our Corporate Name). Re-established in Chisholm in 2011 as Precious Paws Humane Society of Chisholm. We are a professionally managed volunteer shelter.
Cats are housed in rooms built specifically for small sociable groups of cats. These “condos” feature exterior windows and multiple cat trees and perches to provide a warm, comfortable environment for our feline friends, helping to bring out the best aspects of their personalities. Cats who prefer personal space enjoy their privacy in individual, multi-level kennels.
Each dog is provided with a spacious kennel as their own individual space, equipped with a raised cot, blankets, chew toys, and plenty of treats.
With Precious Paw's staff handling basic medical treatment(s) and providing daily care, a dedicated group of volunteers provides the next level of care, making the rehabilitation of these wonderful animals possible. Our volunteers provide needed socialization for the companion animals living at the shelter, focusing on the needs of the individual animal based on his or her personality.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to prevent and alleviate animal suffering through shelter, adoption, education, and community outreach; to support the enforcement of animal welfare laws and state statutes; and to strengthen the human/animal bond.
Adoption Policy
When you come to the shelter please bring your photo Identification and an open mind and heart. Our amazing staff and volunteers will work with you throughout your visit to help find the right companion for you.
Our Process
1.Take a look at our adoptable animals! We ask that adopters have a specific animal or a few in mind before reaching out to make an appointment.
2. Contact us by filling out our contact us form or call us to get in touch with a staff member. We’ll be able to provide more information on the animal(s) you’re interested in and can set up an appointment for you to meet them!
Please allow a few days for a reply. We try to get back to everyone within 1-2 days, but sometimes we experience a large volume of inquiries and may be delayed. We are a very small team working to get back to everyone! We thank you so much for your patience and understanding while you wait.
3. Appointments to meet our animals are available from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 am - 2 pm or Saturday and Sunday by appointment only.
4. After meeting our animals at our facility, you can fill out an application if you’d like to apply to adopt them at the shelter or fill out the adoption application online and submit.
* If applying for a dog or a cat, we do ask for proof that you can have a cat or dog where you live. Such as a pet policy on your lease, a letter from your building management, or proof of ownership if you own. Bringing this documentation with you during your visit will expedite the processing time of your application.
5. It may take more than one meet and greet to approve your application, especially with some of our dogs. Ideally, every member of the household will need to meet the animal at some point during the process. Meeting the animal does not guarantee approval of adoption.
6. We take multiple applications on all of our animals in an effort to find the best fit possible in a timely manner. If the animal you are interested in is adopted before you can complete the process, we are happy to work with you to find another potential match.
Please Note:
Meeting the animal does not guarantee approval of adoption. Precious Paws reserves the right to refuse any adoption.
Fees are:
• $125 - $170 per cat
• $150 - $170 per kitten
• $250 - $350 per Dog
• $350- $400 per puppy
Our adoption fee covers spay/neuter, core vaccines, and microchip.
Requirements:
• Before falling in love with one of our pets, please make sure that you are:
-> At least 18 years of age with a valid state-issued photo ID. If current address does not match ID, you must provide copies of three bills verifying your current address.
-> Able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide necessary training, medical treatment, and proper care for the animal over the course of their life.
• All interested adopters must meet our animals in-person at the shelter – we cannot accommodate digital appointments.
• We ask for a two non-personal references (these cannot be a family members) who can attest to your ability to care for a pet.
• Adopters who live in apartments or rent a home will be required to show proof that pets are allowed. This can be provided in the form of a lease, phone number of a leasing office, landlord, super or property website.
• If you currently or previously had a pet, a vet reference will be recommended.
• We ask that all members of the household meet the animal at some point during the adoption process.
• We do require the current dogs of the household meet the dog you are applying for as well – but this is often the last step of the process. It is difficult for pets to be returned due to incompatibility with their pets.
• We do not do same day adoptions. This ‘waiting period’ will also allow the adopter time to reflect upon the responsibility associated with adopting an animal and ensure that it is a commitment they are willing to make.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
