Sauver Des Chiens

Sauver Des Chiens is a volunteer and foster based 501(c)3 non-profit German Shepherd Rescue dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming German Shepherd Dogs in high-risk shelters, strays, cases of abuse/neglect, and owner surrenders in Texas and Southern Louisiana. Sauver Des Chiens, which is French for “To Save The Dogs”, was founded November 2016. SDC is a 501(c)3 all-volunteer, foster-based organization. We are based in Texas but have fosters and dogs throughout Texas and Louisiana. Our passion and mission is to rescue neglected, unwanted, and abused, German Shepherd and Large Paw Dogs with the goal of finding them a new permanent and loving home. All dogs receive full veterinary care, including spay/neuter, positive training and necessary behavior modification before they are ready to adopt. Although we are still a relatively new German Shepherd Rescue group, we have managed to save over 600 lives. We run our group with honesty, integrity and heart. About Our Founder Karen is one of the most passionate dog loving people our group has ever seen. She is committed to making sure everyone’s voice is heard, even those who cannot speak for themselves. She is our founding member and has been in the rescue industry for 10+ years. There are a lot of people out there that forget this is a volunteer trade, however Karen’s devotion and reliability would emulate one of someone who makes millions.

Adoption Policy

The Adoption Process Application Submission Your application will help us better determine which, if any, of our dogs currently may be the right dog for you. Be sure to be as detailed as possible in your answers. After receiving your application, you will be notified via email that it has been received. Processing time is up to two weeks depending upon results of your reference checks and home visit video. Please alert your references that you have submitted their name as a contact for your application and that someone from Sauver Des Chiens will be contacting them. If you are renting, please provide your landlord information as we will be required to contact them to confirm eligibility of having a pet on premise and any restrictions the landlord may have regarding pet. Most dogs require a minimal transitional period of several weeks. The first few weeks may be challenging while your new dog adjusts to his/her new surroundings. Adding a new dog to the family upsets the balance of your current “pack” no matter how good the match. Your resident dogs will need time to adjust to your new dog and you may become stressed as a result. Please remember that we are here to help you walk through any difficulties you may encounter, but we recommend that dogs go home at the beginning of a weekend or other time such as beginning of a vacation when you will be home to help advance the adjustment period comfortably. Veterinary Reference Check Please do not apply if the below can not be verified by your veterinarian. Your application will be denied if any of the below requirements are not met: • Your vet must confirm that  ALL  dogs have been regularly on heartworm preventative the entire time they have been in your care (unless there is a verifiable medical reason for ceasing heartworm preventative). • Your vet must confirm  ALL  pets have a consistent history  of recommended immunizations, vaccinations, medications, and health checks/screenings. If you have a different immunization/vaccination/medication schedule with your veterinarian, tell us about it, and we’ll be happy to consider it as we review your application. On your application, list the vet(s) that have the most current information regarding your pet(s). If you have additional information to share regarding the health of your pet(s), please note it in the “comments” section of your application. Please call the vet you have listed on your application and give them permission to release your information to us. We try our best to call them within 48 hours of receiving your application! Personal Reference Check Upon approval of the vet reference check, we will contact your personal references. It is important that you provide us with references that know you well. If you have pets, please make sure you choose references who know you, your pets,  AND how you care for those pets. We require at least one non-family member as a reference. Home Visit Upon approval of the veterinary reference check and personal references, you will be contacted and home visit video instructions will be sent. The home visit video must be submitted prior to adoption. No adoptions will be approved without a home visit video. Inside/outside homes for dogs must have an existing fenced yard with shade, access to water, shelter to be protected from the weather. If part of our mission is to educate people on how to properly own our animals, we will be happy to work with you to make your yard secure or give instructions on how to properly build an enclosure. We will be happy to schedule a second home visit video to verify once this has been done. Please note that the intent of our visit is not to see how clean your house is! The purpose of our visit is to see the environment that the dog will be living in, to ensure that adequate provisions are made for the dog’s care and to discuss dog ownership with you. Approval or Denial Once all reference checks (vet, personal and landlord, where applicable) and the home visit video have been completed, an application coordinator will contact you. If we have further questions or concerns, they will be discussed at that time. If the vet reference check and home visit video prompt no further questions, and the adoption coordinator is confident that you can provide an excellent home for one of our dogs, a volunteer will notify you of your approval as soon as possible. . Sauver Des Chiens is a  100%  volunteer based organization. Please allow one to two weeks to process and review your application. In most cases, applicants are approved or declined within 5-10 days. The Adoption Contract Once an adoption is approved, the adopter will receive an adoption contract from the SDC Administrator. This is an online document which is electronically signed to finalize the adoption. Adoption Fees Our current adoption fees are as follows: • Puppy (up to 1 year old): $450 (including tax) • Adult (1 year or older): $400 (including tax) Your adoption fee helps to offset the cost of services put into the dogs to get them adoption ready. This includes (but is not limited to): • Spay/Neuter • Microchip • Vaccines (DHLPP, Bordetella, and Rabies; as well as Influenza and Lyme where available/applicable) • Heartworm Test, begin treatment process if positive • Heartworm and Flea preventative • Deworming • Other vet care as needed Many times, the cost of fully vetting a dog in our care far exceeds the adoption fee. In the rare instance that the dog’s vetting cost is less than the adoption fee, the remaining funds go towards other medical expenses for other dogs in our program as well as initiate new dogs into the program. The above listed vetting practices is standard procedure. We do not offer dogs with partial vetting done in order to lower the adoption fee, and without exception we do not allow adoption of dogs not spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

How This Family is Affording Their Dream Property Through Renting it Hourly to Dogs

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
