An immediate family member recently passed away leaving behind a 9 yr old dog we sadly cannot take. It has been heart breaking trying to find him a home. Although Second Chance is full, and Rocky would decline in a shelter setting, Second Chance has been very supportive doing courtesy postings & posting to their website, offering suggestions, checking in on us, and referring people our way. They have also offered advice and anyway that they can help. They have truly kept me going and helped me keep the faith for rehoming my relatives sweet soul of a dog.

Service areas:

We specifically accept local owner surrenders from NH and MA as well as transports from as far as California and Florida.

Second Chance Ranch Rescue is dedicated to rehabilitating and providing second chances to dogs who are misunderstood and would otherwise be lost in traditional shelter systems.

Mission and Vision

At Second Chance Ranch Rescue we seek to reduce adoption return and failure rates through a thorough adoption process matching dogs and humans. We provide a safe environment for dogs to work on socialization and behavior skills to help them become the best versions of themselves for their forever family. We also look to provide education within our community about the misconceptions about bully breeds and dogs in rescue while bringing transparency to the difficulties of rescue work.

Adoption Policy

At Second Chance Ranch Rescue we firmly believe in a two-way match process. We feel it is imperative to invest time into ensuring that the adoption is a mutual fit for both dog and human. Our typical adoptions can take 1-2 weeks for adult dogs to ensure the best fit, and puppies are typically faster.

"I've been following Dalis to the rescue for several years now and it's a remarkable rescue organization with the well being of the animal being number one. Dalis makes sure every home is a good fit for the animal and the animal is a good fit for the home. She goes above and beyond for her rescue animals and for people needing help as well. I know a few great, deserving rescues but I really think after all Dalis continues to sacrifice mentally, financially and physically on the daily makes her so much more deserving. We need more people in the world like dalis!!"

"It has been an absolute pleasure volunteering for Second Chance Ranch Rescue! The care and dedication they give to their animals is outstanding. Their attention to detail when matching an adopter with a dog is second to none, making sure they are truly finding a perfect match. I am inspired by this rescue for all of their efforts to give dogs a second chance. I feel blessed to be part of this organization!"

"SCRR is one of the best rescues I have come across in my many years of supporting rescues. They truly care about the animals in their care and placing them in the best homes to live out their lives. The impact they make on not only these animals, but the people involved is truly something wonderful."

"I have never met a more dedicated and considerate group of people than I have at Second Chance Ranch Rescue. The work is grass roots and deeply personal to the staff and volunteers -- so much so that the co-owners have offered their land and resources to ensure the high-quality functioning that we see every day. I recently started as an Adoption Coordinator and have had the privilege to train on-site and continue to develop the high-level adoption processes. I began my volunteer journey with plans to volunteer a few hours a month, but the team's kindness, candor, thoughtfulness, and (more than anything) the dedication to the dogs has encouraged me to engage consistently on a daily basis and take on a leadership role. I am grateful to be on a team that values and seeks to understand their dogs fully in order to find safe, supportive, FOREVER homes - I feel comforted knowing that Second Chance Ranch Rescue would never settle for less."

"Second chance ranch rescue helps hundreds of dogs that NO OTHER rescue will work with - dogs with behavioral issues and dogs who are harder to adopt. SCRR helps other shelters who do not have the resources or skills to work with these under represented dogs , and prioritizes helping local dogs, families, and shelters in need. SCRR has successfully placed 500+ dogs and had an incredibly high success rate of 98% !! SCRR also helps keep families and dogs together by providing surrender prevention services - training and rehabilitation for the community !"

"Second Chance Ranch Rescue helps dogs that other rescues can't, and that makes them unique. They are also in the process of building a new facility, and exposure will help them save even more at-risk pups. We took in a dog because we was going to be shot by his owner in rural NH for being "aggressive" (read aggressive owner= big scared dog). We quickly called in a favor and found Bogey a spot in a typical rescue kennel. Within three days he was shaking, growling, and not eating. We couldn't leave him like that (and he'd never get adopted in that condition) so we picked him up and worked with him at our house while we found another placement. One of our other dogs Saint got along with Bogey but their lack of confidence from traumatic pasts was not a safe combination long-term. He and my husband had difficulty as he was fearful of men in high-intensity situations. We were very honest with the rescues we reached out to about his multiple past owners and that one said he was aggressive. And that we perceived him as reactive, and a new owner will have to be a perfect match and do training and be careful. I reached out to dozens and dozens of rescues over nine months and nobody would take Bogey. Until Second Chance. They assessed him and agreed that this dog is not a bad seed but needs solid training and a capable owner. They took him in and retrained him and found the perfect, female owner and he is doing great. I've seem photos of him back for boarding and he looks totally happy. I was getting close to considering euthanasia. I knew that eventually something bad would happen if he stayed with us. We couldn't afford intensive training as we had another doing undergoing cancer treatments. We have rescue dogs, chickens and horses living happily on our little farm. If I had euthanized Bogey it would have forever changed my relationship with animal rescue. How could I take in any more after putting Bogey down like that? But Second Chance kept that from happening when no one else could. We have since become supporters and are even helping with some of the construction plans for the new facility. Second Chance Ranch Rescue deserves this recognition because they are professional, caring, and most importantly fills a critical role in the dog rescue network that nobody else does."

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
