"I have adopted to special needs dogs from SCHS. One was deaf and an owner surder, the second one was a transferred rescue from CA. The dog was found with a broken right rear leg and was going to red lined due to severity of the break. Jennifer Alcorn got pictures of him heard his rescue story and paid for his surgery where they removed is leg. He did his recovery in a foster home until he was able to travel to Brookings, OR where I got adopt him and now Maizy is Dukes bossy older sister and Duke is her goofy younger very energetic dog on the legs who runs the wind living there best life loving on everyone that will let them. I didn't save them. They saved me. So grateful SCHS gives special needs dogs a second chance 🙏 ❤️"

"This is the BEST rescue! The staff is so kind and really cares about the animals and being kind to adopters or anyone who may have to surrender their pets. I’ve been to other rescue’s that you can tell are grouchy and tired and more worried about policy’s than about helping animals. I have never heard a complaint about south coast and would refer them above any rescue. They feel like home and work around the clock to place animals ALL animals into loving homes. We adopted from them 2 years ago and I will go back every time I’m ready to give a new animal a home. You think all people that work with animals would be earth angles but south coast actually embodies this."

"This s an amazing shelter. The use of social media to get the word out is so useful getting information about all the animals there to adopt. The shelter is clean and welcoming. It’s super busy there and they have excellent communication skills to help the adopter along the way. They advocate for people to volunteer their time walking and visiting animals there. They have fund raisers for injured dogs who need special care. The thrift store is really nice and helps fund the shelter. They take pets back if they don’t work out and offer support and education to help with the transition of care. They offer a spay, neuter and vaccination program. When we were there an elderly couple brought a rectal bleeding dog in on a weekend when there was no vet available for over 100 miles. They expressed its anal gland and sent them on the way. There was no way those elderly people should have had to drive 100 milesin bad weather for emergency care. This shelter is truly amazing. People drive from Great distances to adopt pets from there. We are so fortunate to have them."

"2 years ago we adopted our 3 year old German shepherd from South Coast and we are forever great full to them for rescuing him. He was in a California Central Valley high kill shelter. He was an owner surrender at 8 months old. He had a severe case of kennel cough and was shutting down he was so sad. Jennifer and her team drove 10 hours down to rescue several of the larger dogs and those on the euthanasia list. Our boy was one of them. He was seen by a vet here in Oregon and started on medication as well as being neutered. We adopted him after he’d been fostered and vetted. He was nervous and threw up on the way home. But within 2 days he was hanging out with the kids and playing in the river. The smile on his face was the most satisfying thing I’ve ever seen. Jennifer herself called us on day 3 to check in and see how things were going. We can’t thank Jennifer and her team enough for giving so many pets like our boy a second chance for life and love. SCHS and the team there are family in our town we love all of them. They are loving to all the animals. It’s not just a job and a place of brick and mortar. The staff is tireless and the most committed team I have ever seen. Jennifer reminds us in the community to help with the pets at the shelter in anyway we can. It can be cleaning, dog walking, or just sitting and visiting the animals there. She reminds us on rainy days that the dogs would appreciate a visit. They do so much more than any shelter I’ve ever heard of. They fostered a man’s dog for a year when he couldn’t keep him due to circumstances in his personal life. He came back for his dog when he resolved those issues. Others have gotten funds for their sick or injured pets to receive necessary medical care. They’re sensitive to life’s curve balls and will take any adopted pet back if the owner can’t keep them later on. We are a community of older folks and Jennifer reminds us to help older folks remember to take pets in for grooming because they sometimes forget. She never judges, just looks for solutions and opportunities to educate the town on those options. SCHS is part of our town family. We love them and all they do."

"I am a volunteer transporter from San Francisco Animal Care and Control and have had the pleasure of being able to transport many of our dogs up to Jenifer Alcorn at South Coast Humane Society. She has saved so many of our dogs by bringing them under her care, providing whatever they need, and then finding new homes and families for them, always making sure they are a good fit for our dogs. Under her watchful eye, love, care, and guidance, she goes above and beyond for all of these dogs and ultimately gives them the second chance to have the life that they may have lost before or, more often than not, have never had. What a gift she gives them and their new families. It is a great comfort to know that when one of our dogs becomes part of South Coast Humane Society, they will have the best life ever from that day forward. Her passion and love for these dogs is constant and I really believe that we are all better for having had the opportunity to work with her to save these dogs. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development. David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners. Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature. David is based in Salem, MA.
