55The best of both worlds: a massive open field for fetching games and a large forested area with trails for hiking. Nice touches are maps posted on the trails, clear trail markers, parking, and special entrance with a sniffspot sign. There is also a water station with supplies and trash bins. Barb is a lovely, friendly host who knows dogs. One thing to watch out for: some areas of the field have ruts and holes that may trip up your doggo so do a walk around first to identify those sections. Overall a top notch sniffspot and my dog loved every minute.Mark H.

55This spot and it’s parking was easy to find, Barb was friendly and greeted me as soon as we arrived to gave the general guidelines.
The main gate opens into a very large grassy field then leads into wooded trails, where there is also water and dog bowls available along with a map and bucket for dog poop. The trails themselves are well marked and very easy to navigate (but still with varied terrain to make it interesting for dogs), but bring your boots with good traction for the rainy season!
Towards the back of the woods there is snow fencing and the lowest point as stated is 4ft, so keep that in mind if you have an extreme escape artist, but otherwise the entire property is fenced and appeared safe for the vast majority of dogs.
The dog I brought with me had an absolutely wonderful time running for the entire hour, and very much enjoyed herself. Highly recommended!Sarah S.

55My dogs and I had such a great time! As this was our first visit, Barb met us on arrival and showed me where everything was and was incredibly welcoming and kind. It was obvious how much she loves dogs and how excited she is to share her beautiful property with others.
My dogs are generally not reactive, but one is deaf and visually limited so safe fencing is a must if I let him off leash. I felt very secure seeing the fencing here- both around the fields and the woods. If you do have a reactive pup, the only time we heard another dog was when the neighbor dog barked but could not be seen. Barb had pointed out the areas and paths which are more well used and tend to be less soggy, but I actually found the whole area to be much better draining than expected given the recent rain. That being said, gore tex trail shoes kept my feet totally dry. Others might prefer boots. The whole field was very well mowed and maintained. The wooded trails were easy to navigate and well marked, even with a map, water station and seating, plus an additional can for poop bags.
My dogs aren't fetchers but Barb even provided a chuck it! We worked a little on recall but mainly it was a perfect hour spent running, sniffing, and enjoying free time with my dogs without worrying about other people or dogs showing up (like at the dog park) or my deaf dog not being safe. I will absolutely be booking again!MARY A.

55Beautiful quiet space for my reactive dog. Awesome spot to wear out my dog with the frisby or ball. Great directions to be clear about where to go/park. The shaded benches are a nice touch and it’s nice to have water available. Pony and I will be back, thanks Christy, Noah, and Cooper! Robyn C.

55Wonderful fenced in grass yard with ample distance for our dog and his best friend to get a good sprint while playing fetch. All the dog amenities we needed were available. Tennis balls, chuck-it, a bowl with fresh water, kiddie pool, nice shady spots to rest, poo bags and sanitizer were all there and ready to use. Good parking and benches with shady umbrella to sit and watch. Host even offered a beverage to cool off. Definitely going back again. Ivan S.

55What a wonderful SniffSpot, Christy!!! Just the right size property to run the pups and have a "cooler" evening summer playtime in a beautiful setting! Love the attention to detail! Love the chickens and can't wait until you set up your farmstand!! I will definitely be back! We can't wait to meet Cooper! Kourtney K.

55Great spot for fetch! Lots of shade and room to run.
Only downside is the fence did not contain my big dog once the neighbor's dog came sniffin around. Rylie M.

55We visit usually twice a week and love it. The host makes every attempt to create a safe, fun experience for your dog. Living here means rain...which can mean mud but the host has put wooden bridges with non-stick surface for crossing muddy or water areas (which my dogs ignored bit we appreciated haha!). Also put down hay to make crossing some small muddy areas easier. The little touches and the great area makes us regular visitors!Tracy N.

55As usual, a wonderful experience! I'm blown away by how much maintenance and care are performed on the field, fence and trails. There are some muddy areas, and I wore boots, but it was dramatically better than I expected. I cannot emphasize enough how much I appreciate being able to take my dogs (one who is deaf and has limited vision and the other can be people reactive) to such a large, fully fenced area where they can run, sniff, fetch and explore safely. Worth every penny. MARY A.

55We absolutely love this location!!! Best place to bring our rescue dog. He has quite a bit of anxiety from loud noises, which makes the location perfect for him. The area is out in the country away from loud noises - which makes it perfect. We love the open field, the trees and trail in the back. There is even has a water station for dogs!!! We’re able to walk our dog around unleashed and unbothered. Best place I’ve seen so far. Well worth the price. He’s already been twice this week!!! Looking forward to the next visit 😀Sola C.

55An amazing spot! We had the best time exploring the trails and stream. Well-kept trails and grounds with a fun variety of wooded trails and open areas. Host came out to meet us and make sure we knew how to access the spot. There were toys and poop bags available for our use. The spot has picnic benches and chairs and an outhouse for human use, too! When we left, we even had a goodie bag at our car with a doggie biscuit and a chocolate treat! We'll definitely be back.Kei T.

55Pup had so much fun! The host was so sweet and made me feel comfortable bring my escape artist. They did get out the gate near the creek to go say hi to the goats lol but now we know where to watch them. The trails a hills were a good workout for us too! We will definitely be back! Leah P.

55Biggest most fun sniffspot ever. The creek gave Simba the super zoomies and all the trails were just delightful. Kept our pup on a long leash because he doesn’t have recall skills but he had the best day and has been passed out since we got home hours ago. Kristyn S.

55Grace, the host, was so friendly welcoming. She gave me a brief intro to their place and then sent us on our way to the sniffspot portion of the property.
The personalized touch of having our names on the little chalkboard by the gate, assured us that we were the only ones there, as my dog is shy and reactive.
As you walk towards the off leash area, cute curious goats peek at you on the way.
Cross the bridge and immediately to the left is a creek for your dogs to splash and run in. My Frida LOVES the water so we spent a good portion of our time there.
Walk up the big hill into the woods and you can see the cute cabins that they rent, as you walk the trails.
Overall, this is one of the best Sniffspots we've visited so far because:
1) Private (didn't see any other people or dogs on adjacent property)
2) Heavily wooded, (lots of shade on hot days)
3) Fresh running stream for my dog to play in!
4) Personalized touches
When we got back to our car there were little treats, one for Frida, and one for me! Lisa M.

FAQ about our Shawnigan Lake dog fields
Are dog fields safe?
If you are looking for an adventure, but also looking for safety, Sniffspot dog fields are a great option. While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, distracted dog owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private space for just you and doggy friends you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). Especially for training, privacy is ideal. Contrary to public dog parks, all Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog for off leash exercise or outdoor training. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars, while public dog parks often do not even have verified reviews. All payment is done securely online by credit card in a few simple clicks.
All park rental information is available online. Start by filtering parks by fencing, size and distractions, to find a private spot that works for your dog. If your dog has poor recall, you can visit one of our secure fields. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our dog fields where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can review the details of the listing to make sure it works as your desired activity space, for example, safe dog exercise, dog training, a stress-free adventure with your furry friend or even a puppy event. You can even check the park amenities chart for amenities such as indoor training facilities, agility field, synthetic turf, exercise balls or field parking availability in advance. If inclement weather is an issue or poor field conditions, you can reschedule your visit up to 2 hours in advance.
What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog field?
We require that all four-legged friends have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Make sure to check host rules before visiting to ensure, for instance, that you are following allowable sports activities rules and any special events rules.
Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot field at the same time as me?
No. Facility rentals are for private play time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits, so this is perfect for a private adventure for you and your doggie friends, and perhaps a human friend. Hosts understand that many guests have dogs in training and are nervous owners. So when you book a Sniffspot dog field you have the entire private spot to yourself. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between time slots so you will not run into other guest dogs or a previous person when coming or leaving in the field parking area. Some hosts may have multiple fields, but there is always a buffer between fields.
How much do Sniffspot fields cost?
Dog fields in the Shawnigan Lake area range from $9.0 and $9.0. The least expensive dog field is Big Ole Yard. The most expensive dog field is Big Ole Yard. Each host sets their own price, so you can check the price on the specific Sniffspot dog park listing.
