Donja's Dogs is a no-kill rescue and foster organization that is dedicated to protecting, rehabilitating, and ultimately being a safe haven to SHELTER animals that are in desperate need of a second chance. We do our best to help out the homeless and mistreated pet population in and around our area while caring for the animals that we have saved along the way. Like many of our fellow animal lovers and advocates we also strive to make an impact in our community by educating pet owners and adopters on how they can keep there beloved animals safe and healthy. Friends of Animal Rescue is a 501(C)(3) non profit organization that was founded in 2010 to assist the City of Port Isabel when the City took control of the Isabel Y. Garcia Animal Shelter. After placing the shelter’s 400 animals, Friends refocused their efforts towards the animals on South Padre Island. We believe there is a home for each and every homeless animal. We do not believe in euthanizing for the sake of over population, thus we are a no kill shelter for the City of South Padre Island. We are the voice of the animals, assisting & caring for over 800 animals in a given year. Friends of Animal Rescue services South Padre Island by: 1. Reuniting lost pets with residents and tourists 2. Adopting out the homeless and unclaimed animals 3. Vetting of animals, which includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, micro-chipping, heartworm testing & treatment 4. Implementing a trap and release program to reduce feral cat population and the spread of disease 5. Assisting in the care of wildlife: possums, raccoons, birds, turtles, etc. by partnering with organizations such as Sea Life and Sea Turtle, Inc. Friends of Animal Rescue also does the following: • Out of state adoptions, including assisting in arranging transport for those animals • Assist in the transfer of certain dog breeds to specific rescues, such as Pug Hearts of Houston • Transfer cats to San Antonio Humane Society to get them adopted faster
