I was surprised the first time I ever came to this shelter because of what a clean, comfortable, and nice environment it is. As a volunteer here I can attest that all the animals are given much love and attention, accommodated so that they can be as comfortable as possible until they are adopted. The staff is friendly, professional, and knowledgable, and the environment is always bright, despite the sad circumstances of these animals situations. It surprised me because the animal shelters I had been to in the past were not as attentive, clean, and comfortable as this one, and animals here are adopted pretty quickly which is testimony to the hard work and outreach the staff does in order to find these animals forever homes.Kaitlyn von Ehrenkrook

"I have adopted numerous dogs, Guinea pigs and rabbits from the Animal Protection Center over the entire time since their organization was created. I have worked with many shelters and rescues(as the founder of another rescue) over the past 25 years and always have preferred to refer potential adoptees to this shelter.
Being a volunteer and foster for this shelter for many years, it has always been a great experience. The volunteers are treated as family and the pets in their care receive the best care available.
The Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Mass. is very involved in the communities in their area. They have a great program that helps people living in senior housing, work to educate children in schools as well as our local residents.
The shelter has always been a welcoming center for potential adoptees. They have events and fundraisers that bring the community together.
I prefer to adopt senior dogs and the staff will always give me a call when they think they have a match. They are a great group of people who give all they can to better the lives of the pets in their care. I am proud to support them in any way."

"My sweet English cream lab was loose, pregnant, and rescued in Tennessee, transported to Massachusetts, picked up and nurtured by Kim Heise and her staff and volunteers at the Animal Protection Society of Southeast Massachusetts. We adopted Annie in 2015, and she is an important member of my family. The shelter is welcoming, non-judgmental, and safety for unwanted creatures.👍"

"Great shelter, awesome staff and great volunteer base. Always willing to go the extra mile for the animals. And they care about the "littles" like guinea pigs as much as the cats and dogs. I've adopted from this shelter in the past and recommended them to others when searching for a new family member."

"I have adopted two different cats over the years!!. I was recommended by a friend of mine. I was very happy with both adoptions!
They are very kind and caring at the shelter.
I was impressed that they really checked you out to make sure your a good fit to adopt an animal. I would recommend them to others who are looking to adopt."

"People there are so pleasant. They take the time to answer questions, they do not tell you false facts so you will adopt a pet. If they don't know they tell u that. It is a very clean facility. You get to go to a room to take time to acclimate to the pet. This lowers the anxiety of the pet and yourself."

"This is the best facility I’ve been to. Everyone is so nice and pleasant. They care for all the animals and do lots for the community while doing any fund raising functions. It’s a pleasure to nominate the Animal Protection Center of Southeastern MA."

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
