Based in Hastings, Mn

Emotional Rescue specializes in homeless dogs that need medical care. We rehabilitate the body, mind and soul of dogs that had no one to care for them.

Mission and Vision

Emotional Rescue provides medical and emotional care to dogs that previously had no one. Dogs are cared for in the homes of our team members until forever homes are found or the dogs become part of our in-home Sanctuary.

Adoption Policy

Adopters go through a rigorous pre-screening before meeting a dog and its caregiver. The foster and the dog must also approve the family.

"Amazing work, critical in the value chain addressing reservation animal control and supporting tough cases that otherwise would not have a fighting chance due to medical needs. The work that Emotional Rescue does to support these animals while building social awareness and support is transformational for Animal Welfare"

"Shannon Tarr was born for this work. She takes in very difficult medical and emotional cases, and with her great experience and wisdom and love for these precious animals, she patiently and carefully nurses them back to the fullest health possible. She herself is caring permanently for five dogs in wheelchairs, several with hypoplasia cerebellar disorder. The dogs sense her love for them in her confident but gentle manner, her tender care for them, and her sensitivity to what they need emotionally - not to be pushed at all; rather, she encourages them, and then lets them advance emotionally at their own pace, as they need. The dogs all feel so safe and loved with her. They simply blossom, and either go on to live their best lives with forever families - carefully screened and chosen by Shannon - or, the ones who are not "adoptable" stay to live out their full lives with their dear Mama Shannon. Shannon is an amazing human being, fulfilling her God-given role on earth in a way that is honoring to her Creator, and the Creator of these precious pups."

"Emotional Rescue takes in some of the sickest, saddest dogs I have ever seen, many of them starving and mangy. They have some long- term residents including " Sunny," a blind and deaf dog" and many special needs dogs who run around happily in wheelies. They try to place dogs and puppies carefully once the dogs are healthy enough for adoption. Sharon, the "main human", works miracles. The animals in her care are clearly loved and well cared for. If I were a sick and desperate dog, I would head in her direction."

"I've been following Emotional Rescue for awhile now on Facebook and what Shannon does with the dogs she rescues is absolutely amazing! She rescues dogs that have had an encounter with a porcupine, have mange, have been hit by a car or a human or are severely underweight because they were abandoned with no way to eat except to hunt. She's brought most of them back to health and most of them have gone on to find forever loving homes and I've cried right along with Shannon when a dog hasn't been able to be brought back to health because they were found to late."

"I have been in rescue in AZ and WA for 25 years, but my support goes to Emotional Rescue in MN! Shannon and Emotional Rescue will never turn away a dog due to disease, cancer, paralysis, blind/deaf, young, or old! They will stop taking in only when at capacity. Special need dogs is their specialty, and they care for them in a houses as their own family. Shannon is followed and supported by so many of us because she shows us and tells us their stories, with updates multiple times a day, sometimes hourly. These are dogs coming from the Rez, miles and miles of land, no shelter or food. If they aren't rescued, they die. Thank you Shannon, you have a heart of gold and you brought back to life so many dogs in the 2 years I've been following since Crusoe. You taking time to share your life work with rescuing these dogs is nothing short of a miracle, always with a smile on your face. You're the strongest woman and I've learned so much. Thank you ❤️"

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
