Great Dane Rescue of North Texas, Inc. is an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing medical attention and foster care while seeking permanent homes for abandoned Great Danes in the North Texas area.
GDRNT works with animal shelters to save the lives of Great Danes on death row. Many dogs that come into our program are sick, injured or have suffered abuse but there are just as many happy, healthy, well-adjusted Great Danes that find themselves facing the euthanasia needle because of hardships faced by their families.
GDRNT finds loving and knowledgeable permanent homes; educates the public about the temperament, characteristics and special needs of the Great Dane breed; teaches responsible pet ownership; and promotes animal identification programs, spay/neuter programs and general animal population control.
We do not have a shelter – all the Great Danes in our care are placed in trained foster homes after the dog is spay/neutered, heartworm tested, given Rabies, DHLPPC and Bordetella vaccinations, fecal tested, micochipped and treated for any other necessary veterinary needs.
While a Great Dane is in GDRNT’s care, it lives as part of a foster family. During this time, each Dane’s health and temperament is evaluated which helps us make appropriate permanent placements in approved adoptive homes. In addition to providing medical and emotional rehabilitation, all foster homes crate train, work on basic obedience and housebreaking.
This organization could not exist without its many volunteers. Some people donate their time by fostering, and some donate their time through administrative work or transporting sick dogs, while others donate money to support the cause. It’s not often we get to properly thank these people for their long hours and dedication to this breed because it seems that just as one dog gets to go to its forever home, several more dogs come in. Fortunately, the people who do this sort of work appreciate the sight of a once homeless dog driving off with its new family more than pats-on-the-back from other humans.

Ten Steps Towards Adoption
Please read all of this information prior to completing an application to adopt or foster.
1. Do your research! Breed and cost information is available on our website, on linked websites, in your local bookstore, pet supply stores, from your vet, and from our volunteers. Come to one of our Meet & Greet events to talk to our volunteers and meet some of the dogs to get a feel for the true size, temperament, and characteristics of the breed. Please read all the way to the end of this page and our Frequently Asked Questions prior to completing the application
2. Complete the application form online Be honest and feel free to include supplemental explanatory information. Information on the application form will be verified. Incomplete applications will not be processed. All questions must be answered.
3. Wait for an email, letter or phone call from us. Processing can take 1-7 days Please know each application is very important to us. We are an all volunteer group and work rescue around full time jobs, family and dogs. We will be responding via email and phone so please check your voicemail and email.
4. A home visit will be scheduled.
5. You will receive an email or phone cal letting you know if your application has been approved.
6. Upon completion of steps 1 through 5, you will be entered into the Matchmaker Program .
7. You will be given a list of dogs that are potential matches for your home along with information about each dog and their suitability to your home and family. You will be asked to narrow that list to two of the matched dogs to meet with for potential adoption. If we determine there are currently no suitable Danes for you, please be patient. You will be placed on a waiting list and you will be contacted when an appropriate dog is available. You should feel free to call once a week to check in with us. Please note that it may take several weeks before a suitable match becomes available.
8. An appointment will be scheduled for you to meet with your chosen two matches (please do not schedule appointments until you are ready to take a dog home!). Before your appointment, be sure to go shopping for all the supplies you’ll need for your Dane! Ask the adoption facilitator what you’ll need to get to be ready.
9. We have a minimum adoption donation. This donation goes towards spay/neuter, heartworm testing, rabies vaccination, Distemper/parvo combo vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, fecal testing, deworming, microchipping, heartworm prevention while in foster care and i.d. tag. Many of the dogs require extra medical care including but not limited to skin scrapes, special food, additional dewormings, flea/tick products, antibiotics, bloodtests and heartworm treatment. These costs are not covered by the minimum adoption donations. At the time of adoption, we will let you know if the dog you are adopting has occurred any additional expense while with us. If you are able to make a supplemental, tax deductible donation to help cover those costs, it is greatly appreciated but not required.
10. This is not the end of the process. We will follow up on the placements for months to come. This may include home visits, phone calls and emails. We will always be available to help you through any issues that come up. Do expect an adjustment period for you, your family, and your dog. Most dogs will not immediately be comfortable, well behaved and housebroken. It takes love, commitment and patience. We hope to see you at our next Annual DaneFest.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
