Our amazing team of employees and volunteers are committed to helping our animals find forever homes. Our veterinarian has dedicated her life to animal rescue. We take our convictions and turn them into action to help better our community and provide our animals with the best.
Our History
Judy's Forgotten Jewells is a licensed Non-Profit Animal Rescue Group. It was founded by our veterinarian Patricia L. Smith DVM in 2009 in honor of her mother's childhood dog "Judy Dog" and Jewell Animal Hospital. Dr. Smith believes that ALL animals deserve quality pet care and a caring home. The rescue is supported by volunteers, the Jewell Animal Hospital staff, and pet-passionate people in our community who donate money and supplies. The rescue does not receive any funding from large corporations or private foundations. We do charge an adoption fee which helps cover only a fraction of what it costs to spay/neuter, vaccinate, blood test, implant a microchip, provide routine flea/tick/heartworm prevention, feed our animals, and also provide any medical treatment prior to adoption.
Mission and Vision
Judy's Forgotten Jewells does not specialize in any type or breed of dog or cat. Our passion is pet adoption. Animals deemed "unadoptable" due to a medical or behavior issue by other institutions find hope with our animal shelter. Elderly, sick, pregnant, underage, injured or soon to be euthanized animals are the ones we provide a sanctuary for. The animals with us have no time limit on how long they can stay. They are part of our family until they find their next home. The ultimate goal is to provide quality medical and emotional care before finding a loving and permanent home; then, space can open up for other animals to be rescued and given the same opportunity for a second chance. Judy's Forgotten Jewells is about finding the animals that are the diamonds in the rough and polishing them up with love and care until the perfect match is found with a new family. We are fully supported by Jewell Animal Hospital and their veterinarian Dr. Patricia Smith, DVM.
Adoption Policy
Adoption Process
1. Find A Pet You'd Like To Meet With
The first step to adopt from Judy's Forgotten Jewells is to find the pet you'd like to meet with!
2. Submit An Application
The next step to adopt from Judy's Forgotten Jewells is to submit an application. You can do so by clicking on the "Apply for Adoption" button on a specific pet's profile or clicking the appropriate button below.
We adopt by scheduled and confirmed appointments only. We adopt on a first-approved, first-serve basis, so it is important to apply and respond to our follow-up emails as quickly as possible. Puppies and kittens get adopted very quickly.
3a. Schedule An Appointment
If your application is approved, you will receive an email to schedule an appointment to come to our facility and meet the animal(s) you are interested in. While our goal is always to find the appropriate match for your household, we do reserve the right to deny any application that we feel is not in a pet's best interest.
A confirmed appointment guarantees that you will meet with a staff member to discuss and meet with potential available adoptees. A confirmed appointment does not guarantee that a specific animal will still be available at your appointment time. If you are only interested in one animal, we recommend you check our website before your appointment as the website is updated hourly to make sure that animal is still available. If that animal is no longer available, we would still be happy to show you other adoptable animals that may fit what you are looking for or you can contact us to cancel your appointment.
3b. Visit Us On The Weekend
We have open walk-in hours on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-3 pm. Please understand that there may be a wait time during these hours. If we are with an adopter when you arrive, we are happy to take down your information and let you know as soon as we are available. We can also schedule you for an appointment later in the week if you prefer not to wait. Appointments typically take 45-60 minutes, so please plan accordingly.
We highly recommend filling out an application before coming in on the weekend. Having an approved application before your appointment ensures that you can take home an animal that same day if you decide to adopt. If you come in without an approved application, we cannot guarantee same-day adoptions as we will need time to process your application and check any references. We are happy to show you animals you are interested in either way!
We do limit adoption appointments to three animals per appointment. If you do not have a specific animal in mind, our adoption coordinator will be happy to show you our availability on our website and help decide which animals are best suited for you and your family.
4. Come In For Your Appointment To Find Your Perfect Match!
At your appointment, we will review all medical and behavioral information about the pets you are interested in.
We have a room for you to get acquainted with your potential pets. If the weather is nice, we can also take dogs on a walk or into our yard area so you can get to know them better.
We believe in matchmaking so our Adoption Staff will work with you to find the best match for your household, lifestyle, and wants.
5. Finalize Your Adoption!
As long as everything seems like a good fit, you could take your new pet home that day! We do offer options to reserve your pet and pick them up within 72 hours if approved by our Shelter Manager. Before your new pet leaves the facility with you, you will receive electronic copies of all records, tip sheets on transitioning our new pet into your home, and other relevant information for a new pet owner.
Please note that we process all adoptions electronically so a debit or credit card is needed to finalize your adoption.
We wait to spay and neuter our puppies and kittens until they are around 20-28 weeks of age. If they are in this age range, they may be altered before adoption. If they are younger than this range, we will schedule your surgery appointment when you adopt. This procedure is included in the adoption fee and is completed by our trusted medical team at Jewell Animal Hospital.
After adoption, please remember that we are here for you should you have any questions or concerns, and feel free to reach out to us at any time. We hope to see you again as a client of Jewell Animal Hospital!

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
