As a new foster parent, the support I receive is unreal. The staff and volunteers are all amazing, kind, and awesome human beings.Jess Almeida
The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County was founded by a handful of compassionate community members and has grown into one of the state's largest animal welfare agencies. Each year, we find loving homes for more than 6,000 pets, reunite over 1,100 animals with their overjoyed owners, and provide care for thousands more in our community. Additionally, we offer several comprehensive programs and resources, including Spay/Neuter & Wellness Vouchers, a monthly Vaccine & Wellness Clinic, a Pet Food & Supply Pantry, behavior advice, and private rehoming services.
Mission and Vision
Partnering with our community, we provide life-saving work for pets in need and support to the people who love them.

"As a staff member at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, I see the hard work and dedication this team puts in for every animal that comes in the door. It is an honor to work for an open admission shelter that takes in any animal, regardless of age, behavior, or medical. This team does really amazing things and they pour their hearts out every day to make a difference."

"So far we have adopted two cats from here. We have always noticed how well the animals are cared for here. I have also had to drop a stray off here too. Knowing that they'll be taken good care of helps your conscience when you're not in a position to take on another sweet soul. We have and always will come to the Tacoma Humane Society for our pets. We try to show support with donations and contributions. This is truly a place that binds our community. To see how many folks turn out for the different events, but especially the adoption days is awesome! These babies need homes and this place does everything they can to make sure they do! The selflessness and care of the homeless animals is felt every time you go there."

"This is not only where I volunteer but also where I adopt because the animals are well cared for and ready to go to their fur ever home. The people who work and volunteer at the shelter truly care for the animals in their care. The website is amazing and I love that you can donate directly to a specific animal. I am very proud of this shelter."

"I adopted my dog, Tuna, from the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County in 2020, after they provided her with a month of medical treatment and love. I'm so grateful for their commitment and compassion for pets and people in Pierce County!"

"We rescued our sweet boy Merle Haggard from this rescue about four months ago. We knew we wanted a big dog and they immediately told us about Merle (Bocce at the time). We found out before meeting him that he had been in a previous kill shelter for months before being transferred to Tacoma. He is the sweetest boy, with an attitude problem and this shelter probably saved his life and I can’t imagine my life without Merle in it. We are eternally grateful."

"I have been a puppy foster for Charley's since their first year of inception in 2020. Nicole and Charley's has in these past years grown and become a household name and exceptional rescue in the Triangle area. She is continuously learning anything new that she can and is a wealth of knowledge.
Always there for her fosters and of course the dogs. I am very proud to say that I have had the pleasure of fostering over 50 pups at this time and being a part of their growth as well as Charley's."

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
