55Her instructions were fantastic. The place was awesome. They are definitely doing some renovations to make it more accessible down to the creek. Totally worth the drive and I would give this a 10 out of 10 and come back anytimeAlisha K.

55Unique spot for a romp. The site of a previous wildfire(?) is hauntingly beautiful with the stream, wildflowers, waterfall & new growth. It provided lots of options for our dog to explore and sniff. Detailed descriptions & directions from host were greatly appreciated. As stated, the trail to the stream is steep and rocky for humans…But our dog did not seem to notice or care. He thought it was perfect!!!Stephanie P.

55Beautiful spot for dogs. I think I would’ve liked it a lot more if I had larger dogs. The path down to the water was kind of steep. Do not wear flip flops or loose shoes. I had an older French bulldog and thank goodness I brought a towel to make a sling to carry him back up. My other younger frenchie jumped in and got caught in the undertow current for a split second. I had to jump in. This experience was down the path from parking so I’m sure there are other safer spots for smaller dogs. I didn’t have the time to look. The host was very sweet and led me to the parking area via phone because I was lost. I left the Sniffspot early and she gave me a rec which was perfect across the street called Leaburg Dam road with tons of shade and flat walking through the woods. My 2 frenchies were just too small and hot at this Sniffspot. But don’t let it stop you from checking it out and finding a good creek area for smaller dogs. Talia V.

55It is a beautiful spot. The waterfall was so cool and the creek was great! My dog had lots of fun in the water. The path down to the waterfall/ creek was steep but manageable. My girl was definitely tired out afterwards!Carrie S.

55The hosts have added a rope, making the trail that leads to the waterfall easier to access. Once again so much fun exploring this space with the dogs. Jessica H.

55So happy this SniffSpot opened up! It’s great to explore a beautiful and quiet area near the McKenzie River that we otherwise would never get to see. Lots to smell and explore for Lumi - we visited on a rainy day and she loved playing in the puddles! The trail to the waterfall is a little overgrown and steep but it’s accessible, and as the host notes, they’re just getting started! Host is super responsive, helpful, and welcoming. We can’t wait to visit again. Natalie L.

55We had a lovely time at this spot! It was a great change of pace from the low, wet grasslands we usually frequent down in the valley. It was well marked, easy to find and as advertised. The host was very responsive and attentive. It was gorgeous and quiet and just fascinating seeing an environment that is recovering post-wildfire. As is stated in the description, I would strongly recommend a good, reliable recall if you and your dog want to take full advantage of the space. You could leash your dog in the open meadow area and on the roads and some of the trails, but it’s a forest recovering from a wildfire so of course natural hazards like branches and logs and loose dirt and rocks are to be expected. I was glad for my recall and a dog who hangs close so I could navigate without worrying about a leash and a dog.Sarah S.

55Great spot for a walk! Best for dogs (and humans) who don’t mind uneven terrain. Host is super friendly and accommodating, and left out toys and water for the pups (and chairs for people) in the meadow where you park. Definitely recommend! Kristin S.

FAQ About Walterville Dog Parks
Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 1% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Walterville area are 5 stars.
How do I know if a dog park works for my dog?
You can filter Sniffspot dog parks by fencing and distractions. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our 48 fully fenced dog parks in the area. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our 85 off leash areas where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can also filter locations to avoid other domestic animals and people. We also recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the host with any questions.
