A private hiking trail for dogs and their owners 🐾 there will not be any other dogs out on the trail. Our trail is located in Bolton (Waterbury address). It’s is approximately 1 mile up the mountain. There is a Brook that follows the trail most of the way up. The trail starts out with a nice mowed path and leads you into a beautiful canopy of trees as you head into the woods and it quickly turns into a steep uphill hike. We have 135 acres for you to adventure on ! Please follow the signs for the trail head parking - go all the way past the house and you will see a sign on your right.

Walk, bike or xc ski alongside the Bolton Mountain Range spring fed Mill Brook and enjoy the 360 views on the 4 acres of our farm’s lower field. Ever wonder how a farmer in the 1800’s would think to observe snow more closely?! Even if you are not someone who enjoys the cold, the forms of frozen water that we get here in the snow belt are unable to be described. My favorite season is summer but even the fall foliage doesn’t shake a stick at what it’s like to wake up to everything crystallized in our valley. It is mesmerizing. That being said, scheduling during winter months, the early mornings are worth viewing!! Stand in the same fields Wilson A. Bentley shepherded & researched. There is no doubt why this spot in the world sparks us to observe and appreciate more deeply.

Park located ~1 mile down a dead end dirt road with minimal car traffic and moderate pedestrian traffic. West side of park parallels road with a steep bank and ~15ft separating it. To the South is hayfield and our house is to the North. Our house is ~30ft from North side of park, but fully visible. You may spot some rabbits, deer or turkeys in the woods while you’re exploring! We had an excellent time on this trail! Very quiet and beautiful space with a steep incline which was an awesome workout for both people and dogs. There’s a stream directly beside the trail we chose to walk so the dogs could dip in and cool off continuously. We will be back!!

A beautiful and long trail for hiking with your pooch—very steep, though! You will get a work out and need to watch out for slippery wet leaves on the descent at this time of year. Instructions for parking, etc all straight forward. We will return!

Incredible spot! We were traveling through the area on our way to celebrate Christmas with family in NY when we stopped here to get some fresh air and exercise. The spot was absolutely beautiful and the steep climb was the perfect workout for my high energy dog who gets cooped up in the car. We LOVE this trail! This is our 3rd time visiting-- I have a well trained but very sensitive and reactive dog who does not handle off leash dogs charging him well. This is the perfect place for us to genuinely enjoy unmuzzled off leash freedom, safely practice recall, and just be out and about without needing to be hyper-vigilant about our surroundings. The trail was easy to get to, and the decently steep terrain is a good workout for both of us! Loved having the brook for a water source for the pup (and a cool off in the summer). My dog had an absolute blast! We spent about 1.5 hrs on the trail and felt like we didn’t even get close to completing it. Gorgeous landscape and overall a great time. If you’re going in winter like we did, I’d recommend some snowshoes or something with good grip.

If you are looking for an adventure, but also looking for safety, Sniffspot dog fields are a great option. What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot dog field?

We require that all four-legged friends have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Make sure to check host rules before visiting to ensure, for instance, that you are following allowable sports activities rules and any special events rules.

Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot field at the same time as me?

No. Facility rentals are for private play time and any host dogs are required to be kept away from the area during visits, so this is perfect for a private adventure for you and your doggie friends, and perhaps a human friend. Hosts understand that many guests have dogs in training and are nervous owners. So when you book a Sniffspot dog field you have the entire private spot to yourself. We also enforce 30 min time buffers between time slots so you will not run into other guest dogs or a previous person when coming or leaving in the field parking area. Some hosts may have multiple fields, but there is always a buffer between fields.
