Animal Farm Foundation — Sniffspot

Animal Farm Foundation

#87 in United States, #5 in New York, #2 in Poughkeepsie

Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization built on the principle that all dogs are individuals. Our Foundation relies on science-based information on animal behavior and public policy, including breed-specific legislation and housing insurance discrimination, derived from our subsidiary National Canine Research Council, a think tank for science and public policy. AFF's team offers regional and national initiatives that support dogs and the people who care for them in their communities. Current AFF programs include our Old Friends program, which is an onsite and foster-based program that gives senior dogs in shelters across the country an opportunity to live out their lives in a loving home. Additionally, we have dogs on the younger side that are also apart of our adoption program, who've come to us to await their new homes while enjoying the farm life. Our Family Pantry program recognizes pets as family and, especially during tough times, provide a way to help pets stay with their families. Furthermore, AFF staff consult with animal shelters across the country on evidence-based, progressive and inclusive enrichment, training, marketing and adoption policies. We also provide toolkits and resources for best practices to governments and community organizations as well as animal shelters and individual dog owners.

Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary — Sniffspot

Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

#100 in United States, #11 in New York, #4 in Poughkeepsie

Hudson Valley Animal Rescue & Sanctuary (HVARS) is a 501c3 non-profit animal rescue, wildlife rehabilitation center & low cost vet service clinic. Our mission started when we felt there was such a need to be able to bring affordable vet care to our community. In 2011 we opened our first low cost spay/neuter and vaccine clinic as a mobile hospital. Weekly we ran clinics out of our local Petco's parking lot where people were able to come and receive vaccines and affordable spaying & neutering services. From there we saw how much of an impact our services had on the community and how much we were needed. In 2015 we opened our stationary hospital that we run out of to this day. We renovated an old barn on our founders property and little by little made it ready to serve the community in so many ways. We are now a multi Vet facility that offers everything from wellness clinics to more complex surgeries, dentals, x-rays, bloodwork and more. We are so happy to be able to offer all these services and only wish to continue to grow and help more people and their pets. All of the money that comes through our clinic services is given right back to our animals that we take in, rescue, rehabilitate and adopt out. It is also used for the hundreds of wildlife we take in orphaned, injured or misplaced every year. We have 4 NYS wildlife & RVS licensed rehabilitators on staff and many other volunteering under our organization to nurse orphaned wildlife such as squirrels, raccoons, possums, skunks, fawn, fox and woodchucks.

Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't.
