We also leverage our robust foster network to get our more stressed-out cats and dogs into these temporary homes so we may gain more information to best place these pets. While the animals are in shelter our priority is to make their stay as stress-free and as enriching as possible through training, play, cuddle time, and general goofing around. Quincy Animal Shelter — Sniffspot

Quincy Animal Shelter

#100 in United States, #8 in Massachusetts, #7 in Boston

uincy Animal Shelter is primarily a volunteer-run organization. The shelter relies completely on our volunteers and the community for support. Incorporated in November 1999 as a non-profit Massachusetts charity, we are also a recognized charity under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Service code. Since 1999, Quincy Animal Shelter has placed more than 7,500 cats and dogs into loving homes throughout New England. We are committed to finding the right home for every adoptable animal in our care. Every animal receives age-appropriate vaccinations, is spayed or neutered and micro-chipped before being placed in its forever home. Delivering this type of care involves many volunteers, an active and dedicated management, and a lot of money. Our annual budget runs approximately $250,000 in order to provide services to the animals in our care and serve the continuous needs of our growing community. Please visit our Volunteer and Wish List pages to find out about ways you can help. As a “no kill” shelter, we make every effort to find the right home for every adoptable animal in our care. This means we exercise the same ethical and humane treatment of animals in our facility that you would for your own family feline or canine friend. Our capacity at the shelter is limited to a maximum of 12 dogs and 15 to 25 cats, depending on ages and condition of the cats. Our dream is to eventually find a larger facility so that we can continue our mission on a larger scale and serve the continuous needs of the community and the animals.

Last Hope K9 brought us our newest doggy pal about a year and a half ago. Dockett is a dream boy. He's friendly to everyone and constantly happy. LHK9 is a valuable partner to rescues in Arkansas, which has a much worse overpopulation problem than Massachusetts. There are so many people like us up North who want to take in unwanted but wonderful dogs from southern states. LHK9 does a great job of screening new homes and matching people with the dogs that will fit into their homes best. I feel very lucky that LHK9 brought us such a joyful dog when we were mourning a dog we had had for a decade. He fits in so well with us and our remaining dog.

RTR was recommended to me by another person who adopted through them. I was so impressed by the adoption process and the “hoops” I had to jump through, I knew they were the agency I wanted to deal with. They were so thorough in my approval process that I knew they were acting in the absolute best interest of the animals. I’m a senior citizen so I didn’t have the stamina or energy to train a puppy. Through RTR I welcomed Penny, a 5 yo chihuahua mix, into my home and I will be forever grateful to RTR for making that possible.

I have donated money to this shelter, mainly because of the devotion that Dalis gives to her shelter. Her life revolves around DTR, but she is also a huge advocate for spay and neutering and has low cost clinics at her facility. That is the core of the problem with unwanted pets and she takes that issue very seriously. I honestly don't know how she does everything she does! She is a tireless, animal loving warrior!

When my dearest Dog got Cancer she was given less than 2 weeks to live. I have another dog who really needs a buddy so I set out to find the perfect dog even before she had to cross the Rainbow Bridge. I found a beautiful girl. I talked with her foster mom and she was amazing and didn't judge me for looking and understood that I couldn't adopt the new dog until I had to say goodbye. The day I met my new sweet girl was a day of mixed emotions and I fell in love with Pinky right away. I thank them for patience and for really making sure I was a good fit.
