Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption

#98 in United States, #13 in North Carolina, #1 in Chapel Hill

Saving Grace began in 2004 at a private residence and farm to bring adoptable dogs and loving homes together. North Carolina is one of the highest states for euthanasia in the country and our mission is to make an impact. Since beginning, we've placed over 30,000 animals, however the task is still daunting. Saving Grace partners with shelters with extremely limited resources where euthanasia rates are high across North Carolina to find adoptable dogs that just need a second chance. We also take a lot of dogs in need of critical care or in dire situations from them as well. Animals are chosen based on their adoptability as successful family members and Saving Grace strives to provide a more natural and non-traditional shelter environment for dogs to interact with others and exhibit their natural behaviors while awaiting their forever homes. Our Funny Farm setting allows adopters to mingle and interact with a variety of dogs and choose a new companion based on temperament and suitability for their home and family. Saving Grace is operated in majority by a hardworking and dedicated volunteer and foster base. This team is dedicated to finding an ever-changing but always special group of dogs an equally special family like yours. From intake to adoption, dogs are cared for by a support system of committed fosters and volunteers. Volunteer roles include everything from transportation, daily care, medical care, and everything in between to get them ready for adoption.

We're a North Carolina nonprofit and federal 501(c)(3) black cat rescue located in Asheville, NC. Black cats are the most euthanized animal in US shelters and they need the additional support of organizations like us that specialize in finding them their forever homes. We do not have a physical facility; instead we operate as a foster-based rescue. This means that every cat and kitten brought into our rescue is given every chance to thrive in a home environment with one of our experienced foster parents. This is helpful because it cuts down on the stress of being in a cage in a shelter, which allows us to get to know each kitty's personality and help them to get adopted faster. We currently offer rescue and TNR services in and around Buncombe County and we frequently work with other local organizations to spread the magic of black cats in our community and beyond.

Snicker was a burrowing, grumble cranky-pants who found a new lease in life after the Kreitzer crew introduced this mister yappy-pants to us. His name WAS José and I had just lost my uncle by the same name. I guess we knew this was going to be our guy at the adoption event but The Kreitser folks made sure we took the time we needed to make the best decision for our family. As Durham County’s only animal shelter, APS does so much with the limited resources it has. The staff pour their hearts and energies into every animal that comes through the door, and also work hard to connect with the broader Durham community—finding new locations and events to showcase adoptable dogs and cats, providing a food pantry to those struggling to take care of their pets, and using local and social media to get the word out about APS’ amazing animals. APS also has a wonderful network of volunteers who walk dogs, socialize cats and pocket pets, assist with play groups, and foster everyone from bottle babies to hospice seniors. The first step is to fill out our adoption application. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age. The third step, if your application is approved, is for our volunteers to contact you about scheduling a home check. This is not to see what kind of house you live in or how clean or dirty it is. It is simply to see if the yard size, fencing, etc. is compatible with your dog of interest. It also allows other animals in your household as well as children to meet your potential new dog to see if everyone will get along and to make sure this is truly a 'pawfect' match! After all three of these steps are completed, the final step is to sign the adoption contract and make the adoption donation fee. Your new pet will be up to date on the necessary vaccinations required by the age of the dog at time of adoption, spayed or neutered, on heartworm preventative and flea and tick meds, micro-chipped, groomed, and well on his or her way with basic obedience and house training.
