Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary is a primarily volunteer run nonprofit organization based in Petaluma, CA. Our mission is to provide a safe and loving home for large breed senior dogs (50+ pounds, 7 years or older) who have been displaced from their homes and/or abandoned for any reason, until they are adopted or to remain at the sanctuary until they pass on.
Mission and Vision
Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3), volunteer run, non-profit organization established to provide a safe and loving home for senior large
breed dogs who have been displaced from their homes and/or abandoned for any reason. Each dog coming into our sanctuary receives a thorough medical evaluation and treatment as necessary, as well as temperament assessment.
If the dog is adoptable, a home that will meet his or her emotional, medical and daily needs is sought. Dogs that are not adoptable, for whatever reason, remain at the sanctuary or in permanent foster home for the remainder of their natural lives. We provide hospice care as needed. Our dogs come from both shelters and owner surrenders. Our mission is to ensure that each of our dogs will live out the rest of his/her life as a well loved family companion; in a forever adoptive home, in a foster home or here at the sanctuary. Lily's Legacy Senior Dog Sanctuary is one of the few rescues in California focusing on senior dogs and the only one focusing exclusively on senior large breed dogs, those most at risk in the shelters.

Adoption Policy
We have a 7-page application, a required home visit and personal and vet reference checks. In addition to all of that, we work hard to match the right people for the dog and the right dog for the people.

"Dear Sniff Spot, I've volunteered with Lily's Legacy, in many roles, since its inception. What an incredible rescue - in vision, mission, leadership, and overall management. Senior dogs are just wonderful! Care of the Lily's dogs is thoughtful, patient, and loving, and much devotion is given to careful matching of dogs with adoptive homes. Lily's attracts terrific volunteers, which makes for an
enjoyable team. The rescue's growth and evolution over the years has been rewarding to be a part of, and fun to see. I'm proud to volunteer with Lily's Legacy!"

"Lilys Legacy helped a beautiful dog named Drake come into my life. An adult blind dog due to cataracts and never allowed in a home was the most loving dog I’ve ever met. Lilys helped him transition through surgical grants from a blind dog to a dog who could see for the first time in his adult life because of their generous and fundraising capabilities. I will never forget the transformation. Drake and I are forever in debt 💕"

"We have adopted 6 senior dogs from Lily’s Legacy over the years. Unfortunately longevity is not a given with senior dogs, but the satisfaction of knowing our dogs were dearly loved, warm, dry, and fed for their final year made it all worth it. Given the circumstances, Lily’s dogs are the luckiest as the conditions at the sanctuary are top notch and all the doggy residents have the best lodging and volunteers…before being adopted out to people like us. Our last dog, Audrey, passed on November 20 of last year and we are currently dogless, but be assured that our next dog will undoubtedly be a Lily’s dog."

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
